Summary: Independent filmmaker Chris Waitt attempts to interview his ex-girlfriends to find out why they dumped him. This revealing and humorous documentary sees the slacker filmmaker go on a sexual and emotional odyssey in a desperate quest to solve his innumerable problems. (imdb)
Such a single-focused and personal documentary lives and dies on the charisma and personality of its central character. Unfortunately he comes across as an uncaring, self-important slacker on an ego-trip, thinking he is God's gift to women, comedy, or both. I wasn't entertained by his failures, I felt disgusted that such a mediocre film-maker can blag his way onto the big screen. Work this sloppy should not be indulged - I'm steering clear of any future films Waitt gets involved in.
There's not so much comedy and quite a lot of rather flaccid penis, but somehow it works. I'm not entirely sure how fake it is (it's somewhere between entirely and mostly) but I think that the constant portrayal as entirely real really hurts it.
The -man- is miserable, careless, uncreative, even indifferent to himself. I felt a guilty pleasure watching his stupidity to ignite his project, let alone drive it interesting. But then, that's the whole point, isn't it? He loses track of the film and there you go, focus shifts to impotency. Total mess of a human and film. Worthy of watching with the same reason. Plus you'll get to see a dominatrix performing.
Had to stop watching 20mins before end. This film is one of three possibilities: 1.Fake - which obviously renders the whole thing pointless 2. Waitt's is how he portrays-lazy, uncreative, dopey 3.Both of the above. This film made me angry, at one stage he arranges -actually his mother does- an interview with an ex (the whole point of the film surely??) but "oversleeps" & has to cancel. If this guy can't even be bothered to make his own film, why should I bother watching?Or have i missed the joke?
I'm like many others where I think part of it is fake. And I've looked around a bit on the net and don't know what to think. Oh well. So, if it's fake at all it kind of loses some appeal but even if it's completely real, it's not an amazing movie or anything. It's good. The ending is actually really genuine and memorable but some parts were just godawful.
Um, I don't even know where to begin. This is NOT a comedy. It's a docu-drama. And totally weird. Man with a total failure rate with women, sets out to interview dozens of them to find his "faults". This film is somewhere between Experimental and Arthouse. And it's not a good representation of either.
