Summary: Popeye takes Olive roller skating in a rink; she's never skated before, so he has to teach her, and she's not exactly a quick learner. After a while, she ends up outside the rink, and still out of control; she skates through a department store and causes major traffic problems. When she gets stuck on a speeding fire truck, Popeye realizes he'll need his spinach, but he's out fortunately, an audience member tosses him a can. (imdb)

More fun than most Popeye shorts. It was interesting to see so called breaking of fourth wall in such an old animation.

Fleischer's situational skits don't tend to vary a great deal in quality, with the best ones being distinguished by their ability -- however incidental it may be -- to translate modest appeal into something that either stimulates the senses or tickles the funnybone. Fleischer's animation is consistently more impressive than Warner Bros.' but his witticisms are often blander. Like a number of his shorts, A Date to Skate is amiable but totally unremarkable.
