Alright, but I expected more from Cleese

Though I never would have put this cast together, it works perfectly. Always having been a huge Cleese fan, I found him hysterical here, even though the role is much subtler than his more famous works (ahem, Monty Python). Several classic lines, outstanding performances by all, and intensely clever writing. A true gem of intelligent comedy.

Great perfomances all around make this comedy one of the best of the late 80s.

There were certainly a number of dryly humorous moments scattered throughout. Cleese and Palin are the real highlights, but the film's writing deserves plenty of the credit as well. The constant hits at the English were extremely enjoyable. I do tire a bit though of comedies set in the real world, but that don't seem to actually take place in the real world--things like Ken repeatedly killing animals without consequence and characters getting away without any sense of police pursuit.

saw this when it came out, and was probably too young to get it. have to see it again, as i remember liking it overall, probably because of john cleese
