At first it's pretty lame, with most of the jokes falling flat. But towards the end it comes together - or, rather, falls apart - quite splendidly. Not Woody's best work, but I'm sure there are worse. "It's nothing serious. Just an arrow in his heart."

I loved Woddy Allen's character, but the plot was not very creative or enjoyable.

Woody Allen was funny at times, but that was about it.

as i reflect on this, i enjoy it less and less. there's some amusing stuff in it, but there's this weird supernatural element to the film that does not really add anything.

A pretty cute little movie with some amusing scenes. I'm used to Woody Allen movies stretching months or years in story time (Annie Hall, Manhattan, Crimes and Misdemeanors, etc.), so it was kind of interesting to see a 24-hour Allen movie. I probably could have lived without the supernatural elements (I found them kind of jarring) and I get tired of seeing Allen play a differently-named Alvy Singer over and over, but Mary Steenburgen and Julie Hagerty give very funny and likable performances.

You can definitely tell that Woody wrote this in 2 weeks, feels a bit forced at times. Mia Farrow is awful, one scene in particular made me cringe. A few good moments but very forgettable. Woody's worst 80's film.

Maybe not up to the standard of Woody Allen's best comedies, but it's still pretty darn funny in places and just the right length (85 minutes). Jose Ferrer is totally hilarious.

This is light stuff, not nearly as interesting or funny as other Allen films, but nonetheless pretty entertaining at times. While I enjoyed seeing a Woody Allen period piece, I couldn't help but wonder WHY it was a period piece. Seems like the exact story could have been told in present day New York. But then I don't think it would have stood out whatsoever amongst all of his other, better movies.

Enjoyable throw away Woody film, with a sextete of stars in good form. Hits its stride in the second half after a sluggish first when each man is set up to be desperately pining for at least one of the other woman, Allen has fun letting each infatuation run its awkward course. Roberts is terrific in his most substantial role with Woody; Steenburgen has a pair of scenes that rank with the most hilarious in all Woody films, and Ferrer is terrific as a pompous professor. Fun if you're a Woody fan.

I had trouble getting into it. It had it's funny moments, but not enough to make me really enjoy it. A forgivable misfire from the great Woody Allen. Worth a watch if you are a fan, but if not you can avoid it without worry.

Mia Farrow was a horrible horrible HORRIBLE actress who would occasionally luck out and wind up in really really good movies-- this isn't one of them. Woody's worst until that Christina Ricci thing.

Delightfully droll if uneven film. Allen this time deals with his favorite subjects in a turn-of-the-century period context.
