If this films uneven melodrama manages to draw you in then it will be a profoundly melancholic experience, as its characters have a charming innocence that is painful to watch fall apart. I would not have expected a film to approach this topic so directly, but said approach proves more effective than I would have imagined.

I fell for every damn manipulative trick this movie pulled. I'm mad at Son Ye-Jin for being so charming that I fell for it.

Every beat of this film is predictable and there are 6 different asian films that share similar circumstances and themes. However, it is still a well done tearjerker despite its predictability and both leads are charismatic on screen. The cinematography is excellent but a few scenes make me think a DeBeers or State Farm logo will appear soon. The editing is also a bit too commercial-like at various points with sappy slow panning shots which detracts from the natural flow of the film.

Pretty much the quickest way to have me sobbing like a little girl. It pulls every dirty, slimy, manipulative trick in the book, so don't expect much innovation. But it worked (for me, at least). My thanks to the ratings of Criticker members for compelling me to continue watching beyond the abysmal first half (Director's Cut).
