While not as thrilling as the first or third installments of the series, Freddy Krueger was still in his dark, badass stages as opposed to his comical side from 4, 5 and 6. This film has great atmosphere and you get to see more of Freddy's powers.

fred krueger as a metaphor for repressed homosexuality... it's certainly unique, though it has very little to do with the mythology of the series. the main problem, other than the iffy logic, is the awful lead. other than that it's sort of an interesting examination of high school sexual insecurities with some decent atmosphere. but patton is just so awful.

A very good sequel and it's a little bit more scary than the first one. I rank this better than the other sequels of Nightmare on Elm Street 'cause of the story that brings things very different way. Then the movie just haves that rough attitude that most of the movies of today lacks most. Freddy seems to be more sadistic than in other Nightmare movies and that's always a good way to start.

The first of many sequels to come for the 80's Horror classic, and while its a rather entertaining sequel its definitley no match for the first 'Elm Street' film due to the lack of storyline and poor characters. It was good to see Robert Englund back as Freddy as I'm sure nobody else could pull off Freddy like he does. Its much more cornier than the first but in a funny 80's Horror way. Sure its your typical Horror sequel but still quite fun to watch and Freddy fans should enjoy it regardless.

not a bad concept for a "nightmare" sequel - gets horror happening in the real world nicely - and decent execution with some good gross-out moments. Fans of the franchise will find plenty of fun here.

This FX-heavy follow-up has a good supporting cast wasted on dumb characters and a plot that attempts to turn the pizza-faced Freddy into a comic anti-hero, a ploy that led the way to Fred becoming a pop icon of the late '80s. Child molester and kid killer as superstar? Who'da thunk it?

I hated how this sequel changed around the rules of how Freddy interacts with the real world (ie. He basically doesn't). Now we see him hacking people up in waking life like he was Jason Voorhees. Thank goodness the subsequent installments put things back how they should be. The movie does have a few creative kills and special effects, but it's just not a good movie. Though the hilarious homosexual subtext is almost reason enough to watch it.

The homoerotic subtext is laughably awkward but mostly forgettable (except for the strange, Crusing-like club scene, what the hell?). What's really the problem here is that the film doesn't play by the rules: Freddy in the first film could only hurt you in your dreams, but here he's a magical genie-like figure who can start fires and easily wreak havoc in the real world. It consequently takes away all the suspense and makes Freddie incredibly generic and uninteresting.
