This has aged badly--a fading monument to white liberalism. Poiter and Hartman are content with being noble and pathetic respectively, and Winters hams it up in an embarrassing fashion. Only veteran character actor Wallace Ford gets it right, but that's not enough to make a good movie.

Rather flat black and white (excuse the pun) characters with a somewhat predictable plot with not much subtlety. Still, its sweet in its own way and the innocence and simplicity of Selina towards the world around her makes you wonder if she's right in some places.

We know the year, and it's a Hollywood film. Nontheless, it's not corny, and quite affecting

Sappy, sentimental, manipulative, and fairly predictable. Winters is a nasty, selfish, awful demon and Poitier is a paragon of virtue and dignity. There's no room for subtlety here. And yet, it's not THAT horrible. The syrupy score is the worst aspect, but everything else is decent. Winters and Poitier may have cartoonishly extreme roles to work with, but they're both such riveting presences onscreen. The plot moves swiftly with a few interesting nuances. Heavy-handed tripe, but quite watchable.
