It is an extremely elegant film with beautiful art design, great direction and chilling atmosphere. Story is a classic Korean horror tale. It takes a few watches to fully understand what exactly is happening. One of the few horror movies that still manages to scare me.

Even after seeing it twice, it's still too much of a complicated story even though it shouldn't be. The art direction is great, but it's too slow for me.

a confusing tale of two sisters, and their evil stepmother. for the duration of the film, nothing will make sense until the ending in which you'll go, "oh, is that so." the film feels like it takes too long to set mood, and i felt myself emotionally unattached -- which lessened the impact of the "twist."

I think this is my first venture into modern Asian horror. I didn't have any expectations but I'm still somewhat surprised that I like this so much. Very disorienting and to call it manipulative or predictable is ultimately a misinterpretation. The confusion is a part of the message.

There was lots of potential in this movie. Su-jeong Lim was nice on her part, score brilliant and shooting very good. There was many good scenes and the main plot worked, but the executing of it was time after time irritating. I guessed the story from the start, though it was not that predictable. But the director fell into cheap effects during the way and practically everything was too weird to make the story interesting to follow.

Disjointed, badly paced near the end, too wrapped up in its own atmosphere to provide a well envisioned narrative for folks that aren't Korean and/or don't know the folktales its based off of. When it works, it works pretty well, which is unfortunately not too often.

I had it half way figured out from the start; fortunately there's a lot more at play than first meets the eye. It's an intriguing mystery with an almost Lynch-ian sense of humor. South Korea strikes again.

The twist in this film isn't as interesting as the atmosphere and surreal method in storytelling. Director Ji-woon Kim knows how to manipulate expectations but falls short on making a truly psychologically terrifying film by telegraphing every moment to the audience.

Kim kinda shanks the ending by over-explaining and lingering too long, but I suppose that's a consequence of the complexity of the plot and also of how long he has to hold information back from the audience. I enjoyed the mystery, though, and he's very good at building tension, which I can attest to given that I was pretty much in teeth-clenched terror for most of the duration. The explanation is always less interesting than the mystery itself.
