Wasting Eddie Murphy's talent like this and what's mostly gone before is probably the greatest waste of talent of his generation. This mostly sit-com ad nauseum.

A THOUSAND WORDS is a shameless ripoff of LIAR LIAR, but it fumbles right off the bat; Jack McCall (Eddie Murphy) is hardly unsympathetic enough for the central conceit of the film--limiting him to a thousand words before the tree he is metaphysically bound to becomes barren and dead, like him--to work. The trite, unfunny script, Murphy's relatively weak performance (and several very bad ones), and the strange shifts into drama--which this might have better as--all sink it like a stone.
