Obviously a title that's very hard to rate, but for what it is, it's very entertaining and a great achievement in special effects.

This movie has not aged well at all. I tired long ago of 19th-century sf and of nail-your-camera-to-the-ground-style direction

What really makes this great is not only the historical technical achievements, its that everyone is clearly enjoying themselves immensely.

Quite an inventive film (I found it really cool how the aliens "died"), but doesn't have much going for it and it also very confusing due to a lack of dialogue (which should absolutely not happen to silent films). ShogunRua is right; The Smashing Pumpkins tribute to the film is awesome!

It could get by on the fact that it was made in 1902 and has this kind of amazing art-design, but it takes a boring subject like travelling to the moon (though obviously not boring at the time) and makes it cool by fighting moon men who explode. It's actually just a solid short, regardless of age, though I wish I could have seen it in 1902 except for the fact if I had I'd be dead right now, thus robbing the world of this review.

"Le Voyage Dans La Lune" is an extraordinary creation, mainly because it was made back in 1902 - that is, more than a century ago and not even a decade since the first film showings by the Lumiere brothers. Unfortunately, though, all the sci-fi (and not only) movies that followed make Melies' celebrated work a bit outdated.

This is a wonder and a national treasure. Put on your time-travelling hat and jump back 108 years; this one shouldn't be hard to find on the Internet and it is a must watch for every serious film nut. It kick-started the idea of sci-fi with such style and such visuals. Méliès was a genius ahead of his time and whenever I'm bored, I jump back and watch this or The Conjurer. It is amazing what could be done with film at this point in time. Put yourself in their shoes and be amazed and shocked.

I don't give provisions to movies because they're old or significant in some way. I shudder to think in a 100 years every critic in the world gives Transformers 2 a couple of bonus points for being old. My score reflects that this is a decent short that has some great shots and design ideas and a solid narrative structure to showcase them.

It's certainly simple by today's standards, but the sheer amount of imagination that went into this film is astonishing. So much love, creativity, and passion for good old-fashioned filmmaking is packed into 15 minutes, and it's incredible. You'd be hard pressed to find a movie these days that will still hold up after 111 years, but Méliès' vision of the exciting unknown still stands tall.

It's really tough to score something like this. On one hand, it's one of the first real films ever made, so it's full of groundbreaking techniques and special effects. Has it aged well? Well, it's watchable. Very campy, and some of their notions of what space travel might be like are beyond hilarious. I can't shake the feeling that I'm laughing at it though, and not with it. After a while, I just got bored of it. Still worth checking out for die-hard movie buffs, but don't expect anything great.
