While being groundbreaking 105 years ago, it hasn't been able to withstand the tests of time and has aged quite badly. While the basic special effects and scenery are very impressive the plotline, if you can call it one, is overly basic at best. Some of the humour still holds though and the film is infectiously charming. Due to the fact that the effects still pass today it is one to be remembered.

Moon men that explode when you hit and throw them? Awesome! A fun film that proved that film could deliver narratives just as well as other mediums, and that it could achieve things that mediums like theater can't.

With all that we know about the moon today, this movie is hilarious to watch; I love the giant gun that shoots them to the moon. A brilliantlly entertaining film.

Cheezy but funny ancient movie short about a bunch of Frenchies going to the moon. You might recognize the effects as having been "borrowed" by the Smashing Pumpkins for the video to "Tonight Tonight".

It's usually a bit overrated since it was made in the first decade of film, but it's still a fun and hilarious movie.

Pretty spectacular considering that it was made over a century ago. It may be extremely dated in many regards, but the whimsical art design still makes it unique and appealing. One of the first ever sci-fi films!

It's really tough to score something like this. On one hand, it's one of the first real films ever made, so it's full of groundbreaking techniques and special effects. Has it aged well? Well, it's watchable. Very campy, and some of their notions of what space travel might be like are beyond hilarious. I can't shake the feeling that I'm laughing at it though, and not with it. After a while, I just got bored of it. Still worth checking out for die-hard movie buffs, but don't expect anything great.

I don't give provisions to movies because they're old or significant in some way. I shudder to think in a 100 years every critic in the world gives Transformers 2 a couple of bonus points for being old. My score reflects that this is a decent short that has some great shots and design ideas and a solid narrative structure to showcase them.

Amusing and entertaining short, it holds up quite well with surprisingly good production values. Nothing magnificient and the premise is stupid even for it's time, but getting past that it's a quick fun ride.

I did't like this film much before (although I respected it), but I have seen the light now. 'A Trip To the Moon', like it or not, is a near-religious moment in cinema history: it is the first narrative film, the first expression of art through celluloid, the first time it's potential was seen by a man, by an illusionist. The vauduville and cheap tricks of the theatre found its way to cinema and evolved, in time, to what it is today. In cinema history, this is only second to 'Un Chien Andalou'.
