You can really tell that John Barry came back for this film, because this is probably the last Bond film with a truly great score. Add to that Christopher Walken, who plays an exceptional villain, and despite the moments of cheese and obvious aging of Roger Moore, this is still a great movie. Mostly the score, though, especially during the golden gate bridge fight, where it reaches one of the peaks for the whole series' history.
The scariest thing in this is Grace Jones. Walken is great as a villain though. This sort of showing as James Bond is the reason why Roger Moore is regarded as one of the campiest Bonds ever.
I'm a Bond fan and I'm a Duran Duran fan, so that's where all the points for this film are going. Otherwise, it's overly long and kinda dumb -- Moore is super effeminate as Bond, Grace Jones has the sex appeal of the East German swim team, and Walken as the villain is not scary or threatening at all. If you don't totally love Bond or Duran Duran, I suggest you stay away.
The Walken factor is cancelled out by the disconcerting appearance and behavior of Grace Jones. Bond sleeps with her? Ewww. The rest of the film is a rehashing of Goldfinger. Moore looks decrepit, and we get the most cringeworthy pre-credit sequence of the entire franchise. The one bright spot is when Walken drops that unsuspecting guy out of a blimp.
Fun first half before it grinds to a halt at the 80 minute mark. The second half is less interesting but has some great action. And did I see Dolph Lundgren?
A criminally underrated Bond film. Moore might be old as hell, but Walken is a wonderful villain, Grace Jones is fantastic, and the gorgeous variety of settings, from the icy slopes of Switzerland to the vineyards of France to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge is a tonic for the senses. The action and stunts are top-notch and never stop, featuring some of the best pacing of any Bond film. And the title theme by Duran Duran is outstanding; I'm no fan of the band, but that song rocks.
pretty standard action, with nothing really interesting, not enough gadgets or cool catch phrase moments. walken is always fun to watch, but he really has nothing to brag about in this movie, and this movie has the worst bond girl ever, grace jones is simply apalling.
