The usual stupidity. The Little Tramp doesn't even seem like a very nice fellow in this one, which goes very much against what we've all been told and told and told about Chaplin. Moreover, the scene where the Tramp lifts the lady's skirt with his cane while she's sitting on the park bench is arguably sexual harassment

Simple but effective. Chaplin knows when to drag it out.

It begins with a series of run ins and fights at a local park. Then Charlie goes home with the womanizer's wife and daughter and begins to romance the daughter. When father comes home, Charlie dresses as a woman to be able to spend more time with the girl, and in the process fights off advances from the louse of a father. The real comedy of the film comes in this second half with some inventive gags playing off Charlie as a woman.
