Summary: Commissioner of Police C. K. Balachandran's (Prem Nazir) harmonious family life is ruined when his younger brother, medical grad Babu (Mohanlal), makes a pass towards Balachandran's wife Indu (Lakshmi), in a drunken stupor & Balachandran suspects Babu & Indu to be having an affair. Babu leaves home in disgrace & Indu & their 3 kids gets aliened in the house while Balachandran responds to overtures from visiting relative Usha (Anuradha), with encouragement from Usha's mother Mandakini (Sukumari).
