If your wife begins speaking in a booming daemon-voice that echoes through the neighborhood while she foams at the mouth and calls everyone a motherfucker, do you a) ignore her at church b) scream 'my baby doesn't have mental illness' c) freeze frame on her face and fade to white d) all of the above & make a movie about it. Hey, every time I open arcane penis-cult relics uncovered in ancient African burial grottoes, I, too, always end up unleashing evil spriits on my son's wife back in Detroit.

Odd blaxploitation EXORCIST knock-off is more interesting viewed in that context than on its own terms as a crude, ugly and primitive horror film; proves the strength of Friedkin's film was in how seriously he took the rather silly material - when it is played as broadly as it is here, it feels more like a spoof which doesn't appear to have been the intention. Second act bar-hopping sequence is a very odd and inexplicable plot shift.

Crude, cheap, 'n' ugly. Has moments that cause laughter but it's not as fun as I'd hoped.

Super low-budget and cheesy which was okay but the dialogue was terrible. Every line spoken was one character hyping another character like something from a bad comic book.

Closer to the LA rebellion movies than hammer horror and has an edge those hammer pictures (and adjacent subgeneres) won’t because of the people involved. The fact that it’s an African American in the lead role the one who is gone possessed sexually and against the church. Where craziness is wanting to be open sexually. Able to tap into more outsider cultures really examine the underbelly of American culture that is lurking in the 70’s

Blaxploitation take on The Exorcist which is parts campy and a tad creepy. William Marshall rocks btw.

Objectively, this movie's kind of a joke but for what it is, it's a good deal of fun. Great soundtrack, too.
