What I thought would be a fun, self-aware ride was turned into a drab, overly serious excuse to string together absurdly non-sensical action sequences together. I've yet to see something from this director that is comprehensible.

Oh boy, my eyes started hurting after the number of times I rolled them during this movie. The main actor was dull; reminded me of a Liam Neeson/Paul Dano hybrid that can't act. A few interesting ideas thrown in at the end (vampires fighting the battle of Gettysburg), but beyond that pretty boring. Edit: Just IMDB'd the actor: He played a young Liam Neeson in 'Kinsey'.

This movie is bad. Simply terrible in every way. Acting was awful. Writing was awful. The way the story was told was awful. The movie was a collection of extended montages that served little purpose other than to attempt to show Abe Lincoln's life as a vampire hunter, over the course of 50 years, and it did not work well at all.

I know its usually the case, but the book is much better.

With a name like that, you really can't take yourself seriously. This movie just doesn't know if it wants to be a drama or an over the top gore fest, and it left me wanting more. You can only take slow motion throat slashing for so long before you throw in the towel and want this CGI fest to just end. Great idea, horrible execution.

Incredibly enjoyable - pure sociohistoric candy.

Pretty awesome movie. Ridiculous, over-the-top, and very entertaining. Great style. Excellent action scenes.

As you grow to like movies, you start to hate movies like this, and you realize how stupid they are. And as you grow to appreciate movies even more, you smack yourself in the head and realize how stupid YOU were. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a lot of fun and hilariously absurd, and frankly is shockingly good. This doesn't deserve to be on "worst-of-the-year" lists, that's just lazy biased criticism based off the premise. Score is not a grade.

The absurd promise of the title is lived up to, at least intermittently--far more fully than in the dull, generic COWBOYS & ALIENS. Not that VAMPIRE HUNTER is flawless, the story being rather choppy and undercooked. Still, the action generally delivers (especially a great chase through a herd of stampeding horses--one of which is used as a weapon), Benjamin Walker is a fine, sincere Lincoln (the acting is generally good), and it's all quite well made--and sufficient brisk fun after a slow start.

You'd expect it to be another low character development badly based on a book film, but Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter sticks with as much character development as it possibly can and has great visuals, but the ridiculous action set pieces and scenes are a bit hard to concentrate.

Bekmambetov does not exactly direct the hell out of this thing. There's an awesome scene early on where a vampire throws a frigging horse at Abe. Otherwise, meh.

Hate how both versions of this turn Abraham Lincoln into such a dull, generic protagonist. Movie felt like a mishmash of scenes with no cohesion. The action sequences are kind of fun, I suppose, in how over-the-top they are.

As to be expected from Bekmambetov, there is an overabundance of sloppy CGI and slo-mo action. Thankfully, these are balanced out, as they were in Wanted, by how OTT and sheer fucking fun it is. We FINALLY get a movie that not only lives up to its amusing title and premise (unlike something like Cowboys & Aliens), but also manages to squeeze an interesting story in there (I actually cared about the political scenes, which I wasn't expecting). Benjamin Walker is fantastic, as is the train scene.

Unlike its vampires, the movie is quite toothless. Dragging plot, slightly confusing action and CGI which ranged from afwul to somewhat-admirable. Winstead was as great as ever, though.

The movie was willing to invest in its story without constantly winking at the audience, ergo, I found myself willing to go along for the ride. Marton Csokas, the king of all chameleon actors, appears playing yet another character totally unrecognizable as him.

Quite entertaining with a few moments of whoa and hilarity. Like the horses. Or the multi track drifting. Yeah, pretty decent.

I wish there was an alternate history of my life where I hadn't decided to watch this.

Not as good as Timur's "Russian Matrix" films. The story was horrible out of sync, but cheap effects, slow motion and edgy flow of the action were fun to follow. Specially the horserace was hilarious.

Well, I liked it more than Transformers 2. Theres also a lot of great actors here (note; not the guy who plays Lincoln) who go to waste.

A strange mix, where the almost ridiculously exaggerated fight-scene choreography winds up its only memorable part.

Sunday action without the entertainment

Fantastic action and awesome script.

I feel like I want to call this movie "silly spectacle at its most unabashed and innocent" but I've seen The Good, The Bad, The Weird so my view on that is slightly biased. Still, this movie strikes the right balance of knowing it's silly without winking about its silliness, and it also contains maybe my favourite drifting scene in any movie to date. Inaccuracies: Lincoln did not work for Speed in Illinois; Mary Todd wasn't that gorgeous; trains weren't CGI in the 1860s.

Horse throwing is my favorite vampire power.

Found it entertaining. Glad it's historically accurate, else the film wouldn't have worked. Who knew Abe was such a badass.

If you like the title chances are you will like the movie - and vice versa.

Not campy enough to be tongue-in-cheek. This film takes itself too seriously and ultimately suffers because of it.

Fun, but it ends up in a weird middle ground where it's premise is only half-embraced. They didn't go far enough with the idea of Vampires as bloodsucking capitalists, either. Benjamin Walker is great casting, though. He looks like a young Liam Neeson. All in all, you could do wayyy worse.

A surprisingly straightforward take on an absurd premise, which is to its credit. The action sequences are great, Walker is a superb lead and a dead ringer for Abe, and the story draws some neat parallels between its demonic adversaries and the plague of slavery.

bad movie

A film with a very silly title and premise which acknowledges how silly it is, but never to the detriment of the action. A very interesting work of cinema - spending a lot of time setting up Lincoln's backstory, intertwining the historical biography with the threat of vampirism - I found it to be a clever allegory for the theme of slavery. The action is very well directed and there are some excellent set pieces but the key villains are bland compared to the henchmen and the film overuses CGI.

It's fun and about as good as one could expect. The action is cool, the plot moves at a crisp pace (except for a short bit in the middle), and it manages to deliver a completely ridiculous premise in as earnest a way as possible. I admired their attempt to try something new and offbeat and truly enjoyed myself.

If you read the title of the film, you know everything you need to know---especially whether or not you should see it. I found the idea to be amusingly silly, but of course the movie offers little profound experiment or surprise beyond the obvious pratfalls of an axe-wielding Matrix-y Abe fighting off vampires inexplicably involved in the Civil War. Visually the film isn't particularly great, the storytelling is no good, and the performances aren't even memorable.

Fun, if a bit generic, which is the last thing I should be saying about a film with this premise. I could've used more bearded Lincoln.
