Summary: "Adam Resurrected" follows the story of Adam Stein, a charismatic patient at a mental institution for Holocaust survivors in Israel, 1961. He reads minds and confounds his doctors, lead by Nathan Gross. Before the war, in Berlin, Adam was an entertainer--cabaret impresario, circus owner, magician, musician--loved by audiences and Nazis alike until he finds himself in a concentration camp, confronted by Commandant Klein... There are so called 'mind-fuck' movies, and now I know there are mind-rape movies. After watching Adam Resurrected you will need to pick up pieces and compose yourself again. Yes, it is not a movie that everyone will enjoy. Sure, there are flaws in the narrative. But I can't stress enough how good this film is, compared to how little it is known.

Few people can grasp the sheer beauty of this film. Primarily due to its not being a product of Hollywood Yiddish-American sniveling cretins, it cuts through your spine and gnashes across your viscera, fucks with your sanity and leaves you in a spiraling decline to pro tem madness. It's deranged, it's unorthodox, and it rapes your brain. And that is how every movie should be.

Although no doubt too symbolic and theatrical for some audiences (but in the film's defence, the protagonist was a performer and a clown), this exploration of trauma and guilt goes some distance into the mind of a survivor. As often happens with productions open to this kind of experimentation, some parts were effective and others too self-consciously "meaningful," but there was, at least, a guiding sense of the complex play of reason and irrationality, and an interesting concluding speech.

We've all seen Holocaust movies, but I don't think there's ever been one ('cept maybe _The Pawnbroker_) that was about the massive *psychological* fallout suffered by the survivors. This is a highly noncommercial movie, for that reason and a lot of others (no really big stars, heaps of dialogue from the source novel that's hard to follow to boot, way too thoughtful for prime time), so if you actually get a chance to see this on the big screen somehow, jump at it. Excellent work from all involved

There's something redeeming here, but it's still hard to recommend this... Ultimately, I think it misses it's mark...

Adam Stein, our protagonist, embodied by Jeff Goldblum, has survived a German concentration camp but lost his family. An SS-officer made him live and behave like a dog and it is only when another dog-like being arrives in the clinic that Stein finds a way to escape his manic world of excess. An extraordinarily mighty and brilliant performance by Jeff Goldblum who carries the whole movie to a difficult, funny and intense experience.

I feel like my brain was raped. While a weird combination of Ninth Configuration and Schrader's own Dominion, and an experience that never meshes as you think it should, this is still an amazing piece of work for being audacious, iconoclastic, and well scripted. Goldblum is in manic brilliance here, and Jacobi (act in more films, Derek) and Dafoe don't hurt either. Not everyone will like it but this will be, at the very least, appreciated.

It was nice to see Paul Schrader do an adaptation of an Israeli novel, and Goldblum and Dafoe teaming up with a cast of prominent Israeli actors (though Dror Keren's role was too small). The result however was slightly disappointing. It's an intriguing film and worth watching but I thought the pacing was rather hectic, and it felt somewhat like a surface very thoroughly scratched with never a deep cut. A whole lot of interesting things happen, but nothing very affecting.

Definitely unlike any other movie I've seen thus far. It's extremely interesting, but doesn't quite come together. Goldblum is a treat though, as always.
