Tracy and Hepburn in a well-written battle-of-the-sexes comedy. Judy Holiday is wonderful in her film debut. It gets a little too heavy-handed toward the end, and anyone but Hepburn would have been extraordinarily unsympathetic in this role, but the Gordon-Kanin script was written for the Hepburn and Tracy, and the two make it work.

I hardly think that portraying a woman trying to kill her cheating husband in a justifiable light helped woman's lib movements, but I am a heterosexual male, so what do I know.

Not as good as it should be. The situation is not all that believable, mostly because of Amanda's weak arguments for equality in a case of clear guilt. Her whole attitude, while playing well off of Tracy's lovable teddy bear character, actually seems to set back the equality argument because of her short-sightedness and manipulative machinations. That said, the dialogue remains snappy, and Tracy's Adam eventually gets his moment, even if it seems a bit more muted than the filmmaker intends.

Interesting plot about gender equality, though a wife's attempt of homicide her husband (and not in self-defense) is not the best scenario to proove it. Amanda (Hepburn) is not defending equality but a woman that tried to kill, using a real equality problem to make her look not guilty when she is (she told Amanda she wanted to kill him), putting the focus out of the truth. Anyway, the best part of this movie is trial effects on Amanda and Adam (Tracy) and of course, the duel between both actors.

Tracy and Hepburn's quarrels are a tremendous fun watch, but the rest of the movie never really catches one and at the end seems rather pointless...

As a comedy, it's not all that funny, but as a thoughtful examination of gender roles, it's surprisingly ahead of its time.

I dislike Hepburn in general but the script definitely does her no favors here. Moreover, it's not a very funny film. The Hepburn-Tracy pairing brings a certain energy, though.

Hepburn and Tracy doing their romcom thing. Hepburn's character is a little hard to like sometimes, but I can see the charm. I can see it. Also, the character's name is "Adam Bonner," which is just flat-out hilarious.

The first movie I know of with the "gay neighbour who dishes out comedy and advice" plot device.

Classic Tracy and Hepburn battle of sexes as he prosecutes and she defends a woman who tried to kill her philandering husband.

Fairly entertaining comedy, though I thought Katharine Hepburn was entirely unsympathetic, a self-centered shrew whose efforts were so pathetically misguided as to be laughable (in a way that I don't think was intended).

At times it feels rather formulaic and forced, but the dynamic between Hepburn and Tracy makes the whole thing worthwhile.

The court room scenes carry are well acted, directed and paced, keeping the audience completely involved. The scenes in the apartment, however, bog the film down.
