What a phenomenal comedy. It's everything a film like this should be: funny, heartfelt, realistic, genuine. Mottola is far more perceptive here than with Superbad. He also has a much better cast to work with. Eisenberg and Stewart were perfect choices for the leads and the Hader/Wiig combination simply can't go wrong. The soundtrack choices were expected, but I don't think that's a bad thing. Easily the best film I've seen from this year. theficionado called it lovely - it really is.

"Adventureland" is the first time that I could stand Eisenberg, It's also a better 80's movie than most movies actually made in the 80's. It's got laughs, life lessons, heart, and enough of "The Replacements" that you'd have to be one hell of a cold SOB to hate it.

Times have changed, and directors have grown. Mottola hits it out of the park again with a charming comedy that should strike the right chords with most people. Although less funny than 'Superbad', it offers a sense of maturity and genuine skill that few films have. Can't wait for more of his work.

A mature version of Superbad. Not really funny, more of a drama but there are a few laughs. Kristen Stewart was the best part of the movie, she gives a very believable performance. I also enjoyed Bill Hader a lot. Sweet mustache. It looks like Jesse Eisenberg went to the Michael Cera school for acting, the 2 almost seemed interchangeable. And Frigo was a douche, hated that character.

A hilarious movie with lots of great drama, and some well drawed out characters. The entire cast has great chemistry, and Rigo is just fucking hilarious. The reviews I read prior to Adventurelands release praised the comedy, but bashed its romantic side, and was said to be quite mushy, but the romance was extremely well done as well. Mottola does a great job of perfectly pacing both the comedy, and the romance, and the drama, until the end. Is there a new Judd Appatow?

Using big names to propel it into the mainstream "Adventureland" is something I would expect to see in an art house. A good blend of growing up comedy and feeling keeps you interested to the end. Reynolds is toned down from his normal roles and it works perfectly, Stewert was a surprise after Twilight, Eisenberg makes awkwardness charming, Bill Hader was great... you know what I loved the cast...all of them.

After Mottola equated nostalgia and kitsch in Superbad, I was taken aback by the maturity, subtlety and weight of Adventureland. It's a smart film, melancholy really, interested in the disappointments of the past and filmed in a way that evokes the ephemerality of memory. So, yes, quite lovely.

Sweet-natured and beguiling coming of ager stands proudly with the best of the genre; while this largely covers familiar (even predictable) ground, the vivid specificities of Mottola's screenplay, combined with excellent performances all round make this a winner - Eisenberg and Stewart make a terrific couple, but the scene stealing surprise is Reynolds, whose potentially slimy antagonist is still given some well rounded humanity. Perhaps the final scene is an unnecessarily tidy addendum.

Extremely cliched and contrived. I don't really understand all the acclaim. I didn't find it very funny, since every joke could be seen coming a mile away. I didn't find it very moving since it was so cliche. And I didn't find anything to think about, since ultimately its a film that has been done a thousand times.

"Adventureland" has some solid teenage drama to it, even if it's not entirely funny. It does feature some winning performances, a decent script, a few laughs, but most importantly it comes across as an honest, low-key movie.

A really fun watch. I think that the characters in the movie are really fun and work well together. Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader have a ton of chemistry and make magic whenever they are on screen. I was actually expecting a different comedy to drama ratio, but I was happy with what I got. The drama was well done and didn't seem out of place at all.

I liked the delicate pace and realism of the movie quite a bit, but the story was pretty weak and obvious. It was nice to see a departure from the standard feel for a movie like this and Martin Starr is my hero, so overall, a good time.

A warm, funny, charming experience. It's far removed from the fast-paced uber-raunchiness of Mottola's Superbad, but although the laughs per minute ratio is lower (albeit still very high) it evens things out with tremendous heart. Good performances all around. I greatly enjoyed it and recommend it enthusiastically.

blah, blah, blah... I work at a fair... yada, yada, yada I like this girl but I am such a romantic... Ugh. As I wrote this review the movie's score dropped even more. Props to crashing your car while drinking and driving and not getting a ticket. I would think that's tough to do. And the annoying version of Ryan Reynolds was in this one too. Didn't find much to laugh, cry or ponder at during the film. I did enjoy the sucker punch at the end.

I'm a total sap for this sort of movie. It's extremely earnest and pretty damn funny, which goes a hell of a long way in compensating for whatever coming-of-age/rom-com clichés it employs. And for what it's worth, the characters feel more well-drawn than many films of this ilk, with even Em portrayed as more than just an MPDG but a girl allowed to be a bit fucked-up. And of course the soundtrack is killer; any film that uses "Pale Blue Eyes," the best song of all time, gets extra credit from me

A very likable film. Well written and occasionally very pretty direction from Mottola. There are plenty of good performances also, with the best probably coming from the excellent Kristen Stewart. It's all a little underwhelming, but it is fairly funny, and also quite heartfelt, with some moving drama scenes. Has quite a nice soundtrack too.

A nice film. Acting's rather good, soundtrack's nice and a simple plot-line which makes it easily relatable to and real. Having said that though, it did lack some drive, which probably was the point, but it did make it drag in a few places. It also draws upon a few cliches here and there, but it all ends up coming together rather nicely. So, yeah, decent, but a bit overrated for me.

Very predictable, but still succeeds in thanks to the humor and nostalgia factors. Anyone from the Pittsburgh area will love seeing Kennywood and reliving their childhood. 1) "headband guy" is now No. 2 to Jar-Jar Binks in terms of characters originally designed for laughs, who are not only NOT FUNNY but are actively hate-worthy. 2) Enough with Reed and Bowie being signifiers of "underground cool". It's character development by musical taste...lazy. 3) Stewart's character was completely awful and I had zero sympathy for her. 4) Unexpected vomiting? Not really funny. 5) Hader's stuff felt dropped in from another film. Points only for "it's still a good book."

Cliche heaped on cliche, everything that happened after the first 30 minutes was blindingly obvious. Some decently realistic dialog is all this has going for it. Other than the recurring Amadeus joke and the making of a mix tape, there was no point in setting this in the 80s.

First, gotta say it was enjoyable. That said, I find it bothersome that this movie seems pretty well liked by many of the same people who criticize other movies by saying "I knew everything that was going to happen in the first 15 minutes." Because this film hits every single one of those predictable points. It is also much more impressed with how cool everybody is from smoking drugs and doing alcohol than I am.

Mottola toning it down after "Superbad", in bittersweet coming-of-age tale "Adventureland". It's far from fascinating or original storytelling, yet it still offers considerable resonance - at least up to the full-blown melodramatic final act. It's always good to see Hader and Wiig, even if they're hardly stretching themselves, and Eisenberg is doing his shtick, maybe not as successfully as in the definitely superior "Zombieland" but convincingly enough anyways.

The more I think about it, the more I love it. All the characters were endearing and flawed, as they should be. It felt like real life, which is rare in the mainstream. Nice performances and chemistry between the two leads. The story was nothing remotely special, just a forgettable cliché really. That I got my second favorite romantic comedy, after the immortal Say Anything..., was a pleasant surprise. There was a perfect mix of familiar emotional trauma, earnestness and actual comedy. Plus, they have Husker Du and The Replacements on the soundtrack, and I love when movie studios mistake me for a marketable demographic. This is another coming of age story with the typical storyline of loser meets girl with inevitable romance. The setting is a low budget amusement park in the 80's. There is lots of obligatory 80's music, clothes, and witty stylized dialog. The actors are competent for this type of film. If you're expecting something new and fresh then expect to be disappointed. There is a familiar rehash of rom-com genre characters but it's still a charming story despite the lack of creativity.

I had low expectations. I admit, Superbad is funny. But it's just a teen comedy of dick jokes. So I expected Mottola to continue in the same spirit with Adventureland. But right from the start I felt that I'm seeing a product of maturity. I can't describe how happy I was when out of the situations that could have been used as a pretext for some juvenile jokes something smart came. Good, light drama, in the authentic-like setting of the 80's. Chasing Amy, anyone?

It's hard to dislike a teen comedy/drama as genuine as this. Who'd have thought that, once removed from the Twilight franchise, Kristen Stewart manages to do some acting. A simple coming of age story becomes way more then your average crude humor film. Jesse Eisenberg is superb and Kristen Stewart is fantastic. I like Kristen Stewart it seems in her non twilight roles. Adventureland is a film that I have mixed feelings about. On one hand, it's a nice enough drama with good actors and interesting characters. On the other, it's not very funny and it lacks much story other than throwing cliché after cliché of romantic fluff at us. Thankfully has far more in common w/ a well-crafted indie than the generic teen comedy promised by its advertising. Tho it leans heavily on a slew of songs designed4 maximum nostalgia, it's the script &actors that drive the story.More moving than funny, the characters r so relatable u root 4 them even through the somewhat unlikely ending. It also doesn't hurt 2 have an actress as quietly stunning as Stewart (her melancholic eyes would believably melt any1 poetically inclined) as a romantic lead

The explanation may be quite simple actually - I am in love with Kristen and here she is as natural, aesthetic, humble, real and cute and sexy as I have ever seen an actress to be. I am waiting for that moment in my life when I would meet her and we'll get married and we'll love each other and whatnot. Kristen are you reading this???

Adventureland started pretty slow. It seemed like it was trying to "be" cool. As the movie marched on instead of acting cool the movie started to become cool. Each of the characters at the beginning of the movie gave me the feel that they knew that they were in a cool, indie movie. Towards the end of the movie it seemed like a lot of them threw away the pretense of being cool and just enjoyed the movie. This parallels my feelings as the audience. The most intriguing thing about this picture is that while it was written by a Gen Xer about Gen X characters (the film is set in the summer of 1987), I think Mottola made a Gen Y movie. This is a lot more Garden State than Reality Bites and I'd love to be able to point to specific elements that make it so. Mottola neither over-dramatizes the reality of that post-college, what-now mentality, nor does he forget that it really was an angsty bummer.

I don't know how I missed all the 'comedy' - none - zip. Its just various characters screwing each other right and left. There are some fleeting moments where the photography, close-ups and emoted feelings along with music all sync up to a feel-good medley. Ryan's performance is good. This film is a decent drama, however it never really finds its balance between depth and humor, venture too far on either side to commit, yet never quite latching on to enough substance. Still a film with a good amount of charm.

Quite dissapointing, the same story we've seen a million times over ('Loser' anyone), the performances were what saved this one for me, but I can't believe this is getting such rave reviews. There's nothing here that makes it stand out from the thousand of movies in the same vein, a shame, especially after the hilariously absurd 'Superbad'.

Is that Michael Cera? No. But it so easily could have been. Not that that would make it any better. Could have been written by a teenager in a bedroom that smelled of grief and stale semen.

A nice indie dramedy that doesn't try to be something it's not but also gives you a very gives some originality
