A depressed middle aged Australian painter goes to stay on a remote island to recharge, where he meets a gorgeous teenager who becomes his inspiration and reawakens his artistic talents. Pretty predictable stuff, but it's beautifully filmed, and has great acting...plus a very young and curvy Helen Mirren gets naked a bunch. No complaints here.

Not one of Michael Powell's best, but James Mason is very good as an artist whose powers--in more than one sense--are reawakened by a lovely young model, and the cinematography and young Helen Mirren are both absolutely gorgeous.

Would have ranked around 60 points if it wasn't for Helen Mirren's young naked body.

Agreeable if inconsequential little film- there's not a lot to it, but Mirren is more than enough.

Even without Cardiff behind the camera, the film is gorgeous with color and wonderful little glimpses of nature. And the themes of Mason's reawakening as an artist and Mirren's sexual awakening are potent, though perhaps not all that fresh. But what hurts this movie are the characters each is burdened with. I know they're there to create dramatic conflict, but every time they were on screen I couldn't stand it. Still, for the most part it's a very pleasant film and unjustly overlooked.

Helen Mirren is one shapely lass. Her nude swimming scene was the best part of the movie.
