Summary: Ritwik Ghatak's 'Ajantrik' is a representation of a Passion Play with a disorganized sequence. Jagaddal, the battered taxi, represents Christ at one time and the Cross at another, while Bimal, the driver, represents Christ, Judas, and a Roman soldier at different times... (Amazon.com)

An odd one. The car's little anthropomorphisms (many years before Herbie the Love Bug) are bizarre, and it's never quite clear if this is Bimal's subjective viewpoint or if the car really does have a life of its own. It does seem to exhibit jealousy towards the woman (the only female in the entire movie, I think) who briefly captures Bimal's interest. Overall, I'm just not sure what to make of this film. It was unusual, but it felt kind of slight to me.
