Summary: Impoverished goof-off Alavuddin (Kamal Hassan) comes into possession of a magic lamp, after a sorcerer (Jose Prakash) who tries to procure it through Alavuddin leaves him for dead in a booby-trapped cave. Rubbing the magic lamp summoned a genie Amir, with whose help, Alavuddin becomes a rich & important person & romances the princess of Bagdad, Roshni (Jayabharati), much to the chagrin of Kamaruddin (Rajnikanth), commander of the Bagdad armed forces, who had an eye on Roshni himself.
