Me and a friend walked out of this after an hour and a half. It just kept going. Alexander is gay, we get it. I don't know how it's possible to make the story of Alexander boring but it manages to.

The Final Cut/Revisited: Lumbering epic has its assets, notably exciting action scenes, majestic Vangelis score, sumptuous production design and fine work by Kilmer and Jolie. None of this compensates for catastrophic miscasting of Farrell in the lead, and the curious decision to tune everyone else's accent to Farrell's Irish brouge. Laughable treatment of Farrell and Leto's homosexual passion is another detriment, and Hopkins' dull narration confuses an already baffling narrative structure.

A masterclass in priorities. Historical inaccuracies? Didn't have time to get them right, we were exploring Alexander's sexuality instead. Oh, we should totally get Angelina Jolie for this, as Alexander's mother. What? She's only one year older than Colin Farrell? Get me a brush and some coal! How about Anthony Hopkins too? His part is a failure and sucks, but he'll save it, right? Directions for Colin Farrell? No need, his bottom (which participates in a couple of scenes) is a damn fine actor.

Bombastic. I'm trying to think of a lesser event-film than Oliver Stone's confused, wooden, and ultimately atrocious "Alexander," but Uwe Boll has yet to be trusted with a $150 million budget.

So boring! Too many bloody overstaged battles, and the epic sweep gets overshadowed by Alexander's issues. It's too gay and not gay enough. The accents are ridiculous, especially Angelina's faux-Russian accent. It sounded as though at any moment she was going to order Boris to "get Squirrel". Colin Farrell's eyebrows were incredibly distracting.

What a wretched turd. I was not at all tired when I sat down to watch this movie, yet during the show I almost fell asleep four times (I had to pause it and do something else for a bit to wake up). Five points for some interesting visuals, another five for Rosario Dawson naked (the most interesting visual). That's all. Skip this and rent the Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut instead.

Probably the worst epic I've ever seen. Barraged by a horribly paced story, headache-inducing action scenes, and some of the worst accents ever committed to celluloid, my jaw was agape with horror by the end. Rosario Dawson's nudity is the most excitement to be had in the entire three tedious hours.

Extremely disappointing. Filled with hammy acting and stares of longing between Alexander and Hephaistion - Stone spends so much time on stupid, unsubtle suggestions of Alexander's homosexuality that I'd rather he'd just have it out there openly or not focus on it at all. Oh, and one of the greatest military leaders of all time only had a couple of battles worth documenting on film - hate to lose any time for Jolie's random ethnic purring or Hopkins' absurd commentary!

As much a glorious succes for art, costume and set design, as it is a failure in basically all other aspects. Between the wooden dialogue, Farrell's bewildered expressions throughout and the almost none existing pace, I wouldn't blame you for switching off, tuning out or walking out midway.

With a runtime of three and a half hours, I can't recommend Alexander at all. Maybe the director's cut is better, I really cannot say. I do know that Revisited wasn't enjoyable, and felt like a big waste. I didn't care about the characters or the story, the acting wasn't any good, and I just wanted to sleep for the majority of the time it was on my TV.

It's Oliver Stone, people. Is anyone really surprised he sensationalizes, exaggerates, and twists facts any way he wants to make a story? It does come off terribly lacking, but there's nothing to really get up in arms about. Well, maybe Angelina Jolie.

I so wanted to like this film. It is very lengthy with no real direction and plot. The visuals are stunning, but the pace and sequences are jumbled. Alexander is not portrayed not so much as a leader than as an ambiguous meanderer. I loved the over the top performance by Angelina Jolie though a guilty pleasure.

Oliver is one of my favourite directors and producers. He could do a better job. Not to mention that Farrel is not suitable for Alexander. He was a major historical figure, primary thing in movie shouldn't have been his homosexuallity and relationship with mother. Good directing though , but too long.

Quite the polarizing (for the most part) flick that Mr. Stone put together here. The ones that hate it usually spout 1 of 2 things - #1) it concentrates too much on sexuality/homosexuality; it really doesn't unless YOU are concentrating on that aspect; #2) it is not historically accurate; this one is one of my peeves, it's not a fucking documentary, so if the filmmakers take some artistic license then let them.

Look, no doubt it’s not easy to make a film with this kind of scope about an ancient historical figure, and at times the filmmaker does try hard to be expressive, and to pursue something like an idea. But ultimately it is an unredeemable mess. Somewhat remarkable that both TROY (May 2004) and this film (November 2004) feature scenes in which a girl gets on top of the main character and puts a knife to his throat, prompting him to tell her, “do it”. Watched the 214-minute so-called Final Cut.

Two hours and fifty minutes too long. I was disappointed by the lack of battle sequences and the shallow portrayal of Alexander. The sex scenes seemed to be thrown in there just for the hell of it, and didn't serve any real purpose other than, "Hey, let's show some sex, because let's show some sex!" Angelina Jolie's performance is the only thing of substance worth mentioning.

Laughably bad. Jolie is horribly miscast as the mother of Alexander. Not only does she look way too young to be playing Colin Farrell's mother, her accent sounds almost Russian or something. Her attempts at being erotic and "ethnic" fail brutally. The film is silly, boring, and historically inaccurate. Toss in a not so subtle dose of man love and you've got one hell of a stinker. Then again, Jared Leto is in this. What the hell do you expect.

Solid epic about Alexander. I really do not understand why this got bad reviews from some. Contains some excellent battles, acting, and the performance of Angelina Jolie's career. Some of the dancing shots were somewhat overlong, while some of the editing of the combat was too tight to ensure continuity. Also I would have appreciated more exposition of Alexander's development as a military strategist and tactician, since his unique talent for command is what made such a huge empire possible.
