Self-indulgent, sure, but so is Fellini, and--like Fellini--Fosse has an interesting self to indulge. It may not be the equal of "8 1/2," but the girls are just as beautiful and the dancing and production numbers are great. Also, this may just be Scheider's best performance.

Awesome, frightening, entertaining, from the opening strains of "On Broadway" to the conclusion. Phenomenal.

I can't really see the point of this movie.

Quite good. A few pacing problems in the third act, but other than that it's great.

Highly enjoyable and one of the best musicals I've ever seen. Roy Scheider was amazing in the lead, great performance. I love how it didn't take itself too seriously and was constantly poking fun of every situation and thing that happens. It was also nice to hear voices that were less than perfect and see people with some body fat and women with *gasp* real breasts. Nothing seems to be too polished and that is one of the reasons why it works so well.

One of the most imaginative contemporary musicals. The musical numbers, as can be expected, are extraordinary. An ironic and fitting testament to a master choreographer and a talented director.

This was a lot of fun. I don't usually like musicals, but this was a refreshing exception to the genre.

The best musical I have ever seen. Handled levels passion, success and mortality better than most movies could ever dream. The Broadway audition is just a divine montage. Bob Fosse's best work and Roy Scheider more than deserved an Oscar. He was simply perfect for this part.

Fosse's 8 1/2

Vivid and imaginative with exact editing, and an eerie footnote to Fosse's similar death almost ten years later. Egocentric and self-indulgent for sure, but that's entertainment.

"All That Jazz" is an exuberant, energetic and vastly entertaining musical, one that blends wry, satirical humor with some poignant insights into the human condition. Fosse's spectacular direction, lush production values and a remarkable performance by Scheider easily outweigh some dragging musical sequences and compose a film that is both enjoyable and touching. The final "Bye Bye Love" scene was fabulous.

It's quite amazing how Fosse doesn't bs around or change his life story to make him seem more "likeable," Gideon is him through and through. Thank god for that. By far the happiest death in film ever.

Now this is a motherfucking movie. Audacious, over the top,and filled to the brim with bullshit, sex, and a stylish goatee from Roy Scheider that would fit in well at any suburban key party.

Mixed feelings on this one. I do have a certain fondness for theater and musicals (albeit this isn't directly one). Furthermore I do like movies about the creative process and like the experimental elements. But I just can't relate with the main character and there are a lot of things that just seems plain off. And there's something about Scheider I just can't take... never could.

The 8 1/2 comparison is pretty apt; just substitute musical theater for film. And while it doesn't reach the splendiferous (I love that word) heights of Fellini's film, it's still captivating, exciting and highly creative. Scheider is of course excellent, and there are plenty of great dance sequences - particularly the ending, which is (ironically) one of the most joyous in the film. Fosse is willing to have fun with his (and his characters) pretensions, and it makes for great entertainment.

Yeah, it's decent. I don't know, I got bored about half-way through. I'll finish it all someday.
