For a period piece, I've seen a lot worse. Those looking for any sort of complexity should definitely search elsewhere. Every last character is utterly one-dimensional, with no actual personalities beyond their function in the plot. They might as well have been wearing name-tags: "Angry Islander", Over-privileged Vacationer About to Learn an Important Life Lesson"... you get the idea.
