Inoffensive. It seemed very by-the-numbers, which was disappointing. But some of the performances are entertaining, especially Ciaran Hinds as an antagonistic MP. But when the problem is something indisputable by today's mores (slavery), I would expect more than such a simplistic story and direction, especially from the likes of Michael Apted.

Was an ok movie. But was fairly dull and too long. I thought it would have been better

A great man and an important story that needs telling. However, the film is so by-the-numbers that it is, on a formal level, closed off to any of the mystery and transcendence that motivated Wilberforce.

A powerful historical drama, shedding a positive light on a born again Christian man with real life struggles while fighting diligently for wrongs to be righted.

Good film.

Wilberforce as a subject makes for a welcome break in biopics centered on pop music icons. Furthermore, Albert Finney, Rufus Sewell, and (sometimes) Ioan Gruffud do make the film fun to watch. Unfortunately, the movie's narrative disjointedness and directorial passivity leave me flat and uninspired. And what, may I ask, is with the bagpipes?

there isn't really enough of a story to make of movie like this but they did and it wasn't very good

A superb and accurate depiction of the work of a great man.

Very well cast and even though it is terribly boring at times it delivers in quality and in spirit.

Very well-acted film, although a bit more editing could have helped the pace. Worth seeing for the power of the story.

A brilliant film with a great lesson. Albert Finney is brilliant in his supporting role. Highly recommended.

Anyone can make a difference.

Well-directed, well-acted, but lacks an elusive quality that might be called "push". It's a history lesson, and a good one, but only fair entertainment. I respect Apted's decision not to present the horrors of slavery (as are on display in *Amistad* and *Roots*), but the downside is that parliamentary procedure becomes more "real" in the film than the pain and suffering of slaves.
