You've decided to remember American Boy: A Profile of: Steven Prince for later. You can see all your remembered films here.
Summary: American Boy: A Profile of Steven Prince is a 1978 documentary directed by Martin Scorsese. Its subject is Scorsese's friend Steven Prince, best known for his small role as Easy Andy, the gun salesman in Taxi Driver. Prince is a raconteur telling wild stories about his life as an ex-drug addict and a road manager for Neil Diamond. Scorsese intersperses home movies of Prince as a child as he talks about his family.
Wherein Martin Scorsese's buddy discusses reviving an overdose victim with an adrenaline syringe, blasting a knife-wielding maniac in the chest with a .44 magnum in the desert, hanging out with silverback gorillas, touring with Neil Diamond, and generally sharing the details of his bizarre and fascinating experiences as an actor in 1970s Los Angeles. You could make a series out of this guy, or at least a hell of a biopic. I could listen to Prince tell stories for hours.
A small documentary that's just a bunch of lively people sitting/wrestling around and listening to this rather interesting guy tell some rather interesting stories.
Highly entertaining but your level of enjoyment will depend on how much you like Scorsese and Prince. I think they are both great so this was a fun watch for me. You should also see it if you enjoyed Pulp Fiction cause Tarantino does a nice job stealing from this movie, but hey they don't call him the greatest collage artist of all time for nothing.
I've always been a big fan of the Easy Andy character in Scorsese's Taxi Driver, so it was nice to finally hear his story. And what a story it is! Somebody needs to direct a biopic about this guy. From stabbing a syringe of adrenaline into the heart of a girl who OD'ed on heroin (sound familiar?), to blowing a speed addict to pieces with a .44 Magnum in the middle of the desert, this dude has been through some truly fucked up shit. Fascinating picture about a fascinating life.
