Nicely filmed in B&W, which certainly helps evoke the dirgy atmosphere, but this crime doesn't feel warranted to be rendered on the big screen. To what end? What kind of deeper political allegory am I supposed to be noticing here? This ends up being an unsatisfying experience, despite the story being told in an impressive manner for a first-time director -- it just could've used more story.

As a fictional 'reconstruction' of a real life crime, this would have been closer to the Iranian new wave if Angelopoulos had used the actual participants instead of 'actors', because it switches back and forth in time between the past and present, mock journalistic inquiry, and police procedural, shuffling the elements to the point of confusion. But that is the point: the rupture in the time of the narrative mirrors the wider breakdown of Greek social life. Great debut.
