Summary: A spiral design spins dizzily. It's replaced by a spinning disk. These two continue in perfect alternation until the end: a spiral design, a disk. Each disk is labelled and can be read as it rotates. The messages, in French, feature puns and whimsical rhymes and alliteration. The final message comments on the spiral motif itself. (imdb)
I'm rarely one for experimental or surreal films, but there's something surprisingly enjoyable and relaxing about watching hypnotic visuals and reading French puns, while listening to some background music.
Not much here but a spiral spinning and French words that I don't understand (which I'm sure if I could understand the language this would of been a better experience). I must say though, some of the spiral designs were a bit hypnotizing and I was just sitting there dazing at the screen.
To be fair, I hate experimental film. So this one definitely failed to thrill me. It's got some cute puns, it's kinda trippy, and it has no meaning, point, or artistry. I'm so glad film as a medium stays away from the art world most of the time.
The music accompanying my copy is minimal electronic music and with this cut I'm amazed. Anemic Cinema is no less visual track than very recent minimal music videos (like Richie Hawtin from M-nus). Whatever is written on the cycle in French, who cares.
