One of those "there are many things to say about this but much more better not to say them anyway" movies. A classy, philosophical sci-fi.

Just to get this out of the way, everyone understands that this is basically just a mash-up of 21 Grams/Three Colors Blue with little Solaris metaphysics thrown in as seasoning right? Okay good. With that said, the filmmakers show that at least they've learned a thing or two from Kieslowski and Inarritu about sustaining a consistent (if rather heavy-handed) atmosphere and poetic tone and know how to shoot their metaphoric melodrama stylishly (though i could have done without the jarring zooms).

Mike Cahill might be a director to watch and his actors are capable enough but the film is poorly paced. The sci-fi element disappointingly turns out to be not much more than a ploy to market an otherwise stale dramatic premise.

It has 'art school project' written all over it. Fucking hipsters 'being creative', but in fact it's just a poorly executed (promising) idea. Cinematography, editing, acting looks and feels amateurish and cheap. There were a few lines in the film that really caught my attention (story of Russian cosmonaut), but those bits are ever so rare. Cahill still has a long way to go.

This film doesn't use either of it's plot devices all that well. What made this an somewhat interesting film is the scenes between the young woman and the man who's life she shattered.Other then that this was pretty much a typical indie drama that while it didn't bring much to the table is interesting enough to watch at least once.

I really dislike the visual style and cinematographic choices for this movie, which I believe is not all due to lack of money. It's a decent drama and some scenes were suspenseful and others made me care about the young student, a fantastic performance by Brit Marling. The whole subplot with the blind man is kind of ridiculous and almost becomes laughable as the movie tries to get the viewer emotionally invested in that despite it not being earned.

This is not an alien movie/science fiction per se. That is just something in the background to carry the movie. It's a story of something tragic and real, and how one deals with something that could be so unforgettable. The science fiction portion was just a "happily ever after" piece to a dilemma that could really never be fixed. This a a drama piece, and one done quite well with a low budget. If you like drama, this would be a likable movie for you.

Uses its clearly limited budget very well. Marling's lead performance is excellent, & although her odd-couple relationship with Mapother's character is compelling, it is slightly underdeveloped. Visually "Another Earth" is nice too, with images of 'Earth Two' used very effectively. The sci-fi elements take a back seat to the central relationship, but both elements marry together well. Some scenes don't quite work, others however are really brilliant, including a supurb final scene.

The best sci-fi movies are barely sci-fi movies at all. They ignore the science. Another Earth just took this to the next level.

Cahill and Marling are two to definately watch in the future. Really liked the fact that the existence of Earth 2 (great name by the way) merely served as background for the more interesting guilt-filled storyline.

The strengths of this are a neat idea of a duplicate Earth (fuck logic -- it's used to examine guilt and redemption and whatnot), a strong performance by Brit Marling, and pretty solid music. It also has a wonderful little ending shot to tie it all up. The drama is handled well. It was never boring.

Another Earth has such a unique and interesting story, which does not happen to often these days with so many remakes and unoriginal films being made. The film deals with many human emotions, revenge, lust, gluttony, but also has just enough sci-fi to keep you guessing throughout the film. Both of the story lines blend together perfectly, and the conclusion will you leave you speechless. Another Earth is a one of a kind.

I think I liked the premise of the movie more than I liked the movie itself, but it was a great indie film, especially for the sci-fi genre. I look forward to more from both Cahill and Marling.

Slow, dreamlike, and absolutely beautiful - "soft" sci-fi where even with alternative planets and space travel, it's still all about two people and who they might have been and might still be. It's not Solyaris, but it might just be this year's Moon.

Compelling, even hypnotic in a low-key way. Ultimately doesn't mesh well enough with its sci-fi side plot to result in anything as powerful as was intended, but it's a reasonably effective, reasonably provocative indie examination of guilt, redemption...and the vastness of space.

a strong first effort by the two young filmmakers, but the humorless, mopey beginning makes it hard to feel for the main character for quite some time. Once the two leads start developing there relationship together, the film starts to take off.

I've gotta hand it to this movie, it's stayed with me since I saw it two months back. It seems to have a penchant for subverting expectations. The sci-fi elements of it work well with the (much more predominant) dramatic elements. It reminds me of an indie version of Gattaca, in a certain sense.

A unique visual sense does not overcome empty characterization, laughable dialogue, and some really terrible performances (especially by the lead male).

Damn, this is what indie sci-fi is all about. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on Brit Marling's career from here on.
