An extremely satisfying indie horror film that hits all the right notes. I especially like the creative "dating" of the film.

I hate the found footage concept, but this time the story is well paced and constructed. Much hate is guided toward the problem of retrieving the found footage, but seriously this is a sci fi horror flick… Who cares!!?

could have been a hell of a lot better, but as is it isn't too shabby. if the aliens weren't a bunch of rock monsters, and there were some more people to kill off i suppose i could have been pretty enthralled.

Why the fuck would a found footage movie have a cut every second and a half? Apollo 18 combines the aforementioned pretense with the editing of big dumb blockbusters just to steal the time and money of fans of both genres, proven by the fact that it lifts only the worst aspects of each, with no regard for why people like those kinds of movies in the first place. If you liked it, see a doctor.

This movie gets some credit for actually trying to shake up the "Shaky Hand Cam/Found-Footage" horror genre, and I thought placing it in space would have a lot of potential, but there just isn't anything all that memorable about it. Maybe its the slow movement in space that affects this, but Apollo 18 just seems to plod along and nothing truly scary ever happens...the aliens seem less like monsters and more like angry spiders. Stay light years away from this film.

Watch 'Le Voyage dans la lune' instead.

Yes its another shaky 'real' footage film and yes its not original but this film had me gripped from beginning to end. Granted, the footage does appear acted rather than real but the acting is good. Predictable through out but thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm very glad I waited to see this instead of seeing it in theaters because I was certainly let down by how dull and boring it was. Sure there is only so much you can show with two characters on the moon, but whenever the film seemed to finally pick up it just went back to being boring. The concept is good, and I think it played out well, especially towards the very end, but there was nowhere near enough excitement to keep me interested enough to really enjoy it. Overall give it a miss!

This found footage gimmick is getting out of control.

Very, very dumb, but it's not TERRIBLE, mostly thanks to the effort the filmmakers went to to make it period-appropriate. The moon monsters were dumb, but the low visual quality added to their B-movie effects. On the verge of being watchable.

It follows all the genre conventions with its only originality being the fact that it takes place on the Moon. Such a premise could have been exciting or even scary but it sorely fails to do either of those. In fact, the only thing it does do remarkably well is waste your time. So steer clear! If you do however end up seeing this, do yourself a favour and skip to the credits. It is accompanied by a beautiful piano piece, which to be honest, is the only reason I didn't score this even lower.

0+ absolute torture :: Like all of the films of this style, this one is super-boring. Once things start happening, it's still difficult to care because of it.

BORING

My favorite Christmas movie.

Seriously this is a found footage movie, but the footage is lost in space due to an explosion on a spaceship! How'd they find the footage? Then sent up another ship and found the tapes in orbit? Not irradiated by the unfiltered sunlight or burned up in the explosion or melted in the 300 degree direct sunlight?

Welcome to the year 1999 when pseudo-documentary films were still a somewhat fun horror concept. Blair Witch Project in space etc.. there's not much more to say than that. The space flight/moon footage is interesting conceptually but it's too bad this relies so much on horror jump cuts and sells itself short with gimmick student film editing. When you find out that they are being pursued by space rocks it's all the goofier.

I'm not going to ask, "What were they thinking?" because the real question is, "WERE THEY THINKING?"

Starts off promising, but the last half really drags on and the movie falls apart.

Ehn, I got a real kick out of the dated looking footage. This however has all the thrills of an actual NASA mission. "Damn it Miller and Goodman, this is great stuff but what will the astronauts be attacked by" 'Rocks!!!!; "FUCK"

So scared the rocks are going to kill me. Lol

Only just entertaining enough to keep me alert, the biggest problem is the strive for realism. The editing, bad camera angles and bad picture makes it confusing, incoherent and not scary at all.

A terrible film, but at least its tediousness allowed me and my friends to look up moon-related questions. So watch this, and you may come away learning something about the holy sphere.

By seeing a movie with aliens and(!) NASA in it, I didn't think much could go wrong, really. Boy was I surprised! It's Paranormal Activity in space with shaky cam and old camera effects. But not just the first few minutes, no, I am talking ghostly 1969 moon cams with grain and noise added on top of them in television format... movie-length. To sum it up, it's bad, even for people that actually liked the cinematography of Cloverfield. I won't even mention the plot.

I found this to be a very entertaining film.The camera style evokes the footage of the Apollo missions nicely and the tension is maintained throughout quite well.

Surprisingly engaging. Think of it as 90 minutes of webcam without the porn.

Don't let the government pull the wool over your eyes, man, it's good stuff.

Feels rushed and badly executed

Killer rocks. Killer. Rocks. It's somewhat scary, but rocks have to be the worst horror villain ever. Fucking rocks. Geology and horror do not mix so well. Rocks.

This horror-vérité fails to take off, and when it does, it crashes too soon: these com interferences and stone made villains simply don't stay with you. We never get that level on uncertainty about the characters as we do in other mock docs, like Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity.

The atmosphere, environment and realism is surprisingly strong. The story and everything else fell flat on its face.

Apollo 18 might be the worst film I've ever seen. It's bad not even by Plan 9 standards because at least Ed Wood was trying. This movie is so offensive all the people involved should be banned from having anything to do with the production of film or of any type of storytelling medium ever again.

Supposedly the entire film is made up of actual footage. The film's success, imo, depends heavily on whether the viewer buys this claim. Given my score, you know what I think.

Pretty good as fake found footage, a failure as a horror film. Apollo 18 looks and feels like real lost space footage - at least if you overlook a few physical errors - but it's never scary, and it comes out as rather pointless. And the more I think about the premise, the more ridiculous it gets.

Visually, the filmmakers were spot on in their presentation. Unfortunately, poor editing nullifies all attempts at maintaining some semblance of suspense, horror, and well...goodness. What I learned from this movie: in Soviet Russia, the moon lands on you.

I actually really dig the setting, space is scary enough on its own. But man, that editing really tried to be good and really ruined the movie

Bad movie

A sucessful exercise in trying to replicate "authentic found materials". My only complaint was that the ending wrapped everything up too easily. I would have been more impressed if something else happened. Out of all the movies, though, where astronauts went to the moon and found out there were killer alien rocks, this was most certainly a movie where astronauts went to the moon and found out there were killer alien rocks.

Dull, interminable retread of every faux-reality horror movie since the Blair Witch Project. Tension = Zero.

Totally Boring. You're just sittin' there, waitin for some suspense or shocking moments, but nothing comes around. And then, behind all those boring scenes, they are full of fails. Can someone tell how did they get the footage to earth, "when they never gone back to the moon"?

On the downside it's a bit short and in the end the story is a bit rushed. I very much like the editing, the way it was presented and shooted.

The period camerawork is astounding and I kinda dug the story, but the editing - both video and sound - juvenilizes the story and sucks away any tension.

"There's a reason we never went back to the moon..." The reason, of course, being that Something there killed off the last crew who went there and their footage wasn't found until now. Very good idea for a claustrophobic conspiracy horror, squandered to overacting, silly plot twists and plot holes that threaten to engulf the entire damn rock. Disappointment.

keeps the tension till the end but could be better ... at least its worth watching.. not very easy to find sci-fi mockumentaries (it s like Paranormal Activity on the moon)

I enjoy the found footage style. Aside from a bit of obvious bad Hollywooding, I think that aspect of the movie really succeeds, and it does a lot of little things right. It gets the atmosphere and cinematography spot-on, it lays out the characters without delving too much into any one individual (I usually prefer more development, but here it really works), it had suspense and scares... I dunno, I'm not sure where the hate comes from. I enjoyed myself. Bear in mind, I'm forgiving to this genre.

I have to say, I really enjoyed the presentation. The makers really nailed that 60's + on the moon style. It's too bad the content is really lacking. Once the antagonists are revealed the whole thing collapses like a house of (space) cards. Still, I appreciated the effort.

Starts off extremely scary (I'm a wuss) so it was hard to watch (watching without glasses is a good tip for not seeing much). But the last half hour is so stupid and ridiculous I could watch without closing my eyes. If I can watch it, then you know this is a bad horror movie
