I'd say Russell steals the show, but you can't steal what's yours. She dominates every scene so completely that it doesn't matter that the film goes on and on, nor that half the supporting cast is either terrible or annoying. The fade to blacks are a bit much, but nothing can stop her from creating a character that's very funny, very conceited and still sympathetic when needed. I enjoyed it much more than I would have expected and it's all thanks to her.

Strained, stagy comedy. Rosalind Russell tries way too hard, producing the opposite of her intention: she reveals herself to be a drab, disciplined professional pretending to be a colorful eccentric.

A movie loaded with wit, style, and charm--ingredients sadly missing in most entertainment these days.

Punishingly long for a comedy pre-occupied with vamping and shooting fish in a barrel.

I know this one always seems to be rated amongst the greatest comedies ever. It's obvious it's rated so highly by people who remember when there weren't any cars. This movie is enjoyable, true. But it's also very tired, and there are countless comedies that should rank higher.

"Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!" They certainly are if they haven't seen this one -- a classic, and Russell's best role.

Could charm the birds down from the trees. Those theatrical lighting changes don't sound like they'd work, but they do

Overly theatrical comedy that features some funny moments hidden within a tedious and drawn out plot. Rosalind Russell puts in a good performance and gets to deliver some great lines (along with Coral Browne), but also spends way too much time trying to convince us of her outrageousness. Every other character though was either dull or annoying, especially Peggy Cass who was horrificly irritating (Her Academy Award nomination is just baffling)
