I'm not really sure what to make of it. On one hand it's disturbing on so many new and unimaginable levels, on the other hand it illustrates that there are few tools left with which to deconstruct the vampire archetype. Still it ends up being quite the compelling trip. I wish some movie theater tricked people into coming to see Twilight and showed this film instead.

Not a fan of movies where the main characters spend half the movie doing something incredibly stupid, i.e. he should have just killed / got rid of the girl soon after she started acting the bitch and he would've lived much happier after that.

One can't take Thirst seriously, even with its ironic cha-cha music cues, when Park sets up his usual elaborate sentimental ending -- further variation on his typical self-flagellation and mortification of the flesh.

The Korean attempt at a vampire movie is both laughable and jolting. It isn't the typical vampire romance, and that is what I love about it. The acting is a bit over-the-top, but the scenes are captivating with craziness. The gore is awesome, the sex scenes are awesome, and the camera work is awesome. I wish the story had some structure, because it felt all over the place. Many scenes had no purpose, and left me wondering what was Park trying to convey. The last twenty minutes are spectacular.

This description is woefully inadequate. It's a well thought out tale of how western style vampires might work in modern Korean society. Also, gruesome as hell.

The type of movie where you have to sit back and think about it for a moment after watching in order to fully grasp the enormity of its crazy inertia. An excoriating exploration of Catholic, and non-Catholic, guilt.

A very chilly and different sort of vampire flick that is wonderfully acted but still bewildering at times. It takes almost 90 minutes to gather focus, though I can't imagine what you'd cut from it either. A few scenes are too dark as well, but this is still a beautiful looking film that consistently enthralls. Song Kang-ho is excellent, and Tae-ju's transformation from wallflower to psycho vampire is absorbing.

I don't know if I've just gotten too used to Park Chan-wook, but this film just doesn't have as many of those moments of fresh surprise/delight/shock as his other films, nor does it seem to be as good at using those hinted-at-but-unanswered issues to hold my interest -- I actually think this is a more straightforward work than most of his other films. Still, all the Park Chan-wook elements are there, and it's a good film overall.

Much better than Twilight! More metaphors, and still plenty of details... It is not about vampires, it is about moral, love, lust and making the right choices. Visually intriguing, it starts slowly and as the story unfolds, one feels kind of sad and satisfied at the same time. Lots of sex and violence scenes, but still worth watching.

Seems to waver somewhere between being a straight-up genre piece and a more thoughtful film about faith, guilt and redemption. Loses some steam halfway through, sacrificing the thematic elements in favour of gore, sex and other vampire clichés, but it picks up again towards the end. Park's visual flair and dark humour is still evident, but this is slightly disappointing compared to his other work.

Part horror film, love story, personal drama and black comedy. That's a lot of genres, and as a result the movie can't really build a strong presence, constantly shifting into something a little different. It's solid, but in the end a bit unfulfilling.
