Summary: Will centers on a high school outcast and a popular girl who form an unlikely bond through their shared love of music. Assembling a like-minded crew of misfits, the friends form a rock group and perform in the battle of the bands competition at their school. (imdb)
As with the work of John Hughes, there's a zealous celebration of nuanced youthfulness in Bandslam's unpretentious design that both overpower its occasional over-simplicities and those easy comparisons to inferior film (the HSM brand, in this case). With infectious spirit, enduring heartfulness and pop-culture witticisms, the truly personable Bandslam represents something far more distinguished. It ascends beyond bubblegum pop entertainment to a realm of altogether more sensational cinema.
A little cheesy, but it's a teen drama, so that's to be expected. Well written (in spite of the formula it's based on), well directed and the actors were perfect for this type of movie. Plus the soundtrack fit perfectly. I liked it, I just couldn't help it; it made me feel happy.
"I Can't Go On, I'll Go On is the name of the bubblegum rock group at the center of Bandslam, as well as a useful mantra for any moviegoer struggling to make it all the way through this depressingly phony approximation of a teen tragicomedy." - Ryan Stewart
Any music lover out there will really enjoy this film, but it's a shame that a lot of them won't see it after being put off by the title/poster/actors and so-on. It looks like your typical high school musical but it's far from it as the focus is much more on indie music. It has a great cast with Gaelan Connell as the stand-out playing Will Burton. It has a nice blend of comedy and drama as well as some very catchy songs. Overall definitely worth a look especially for those that love music.
Bandslam is a watchable, family-friendly experience that will actually be watchable for most of the adults as well. Or, it will be unless you hate musical numbers in films, because there are a few here. At the very least, it has likable -- albeit shallow -- characters and some intelligent dialogue. Oh, and there's also a David Bowie cameo. If nothing else, you might giggle with glee when that happens.
bulundugu okulda yabancilik çeken will burton, yeni gittigi okulda yapilan festival çalismalarindan haberdar olur. bir rock grubunun menajerligini yapar. grup gün geçtikçe daha iyi bir performans sergiler ve yarismanin favorisi olma yolunda ilerler. bu arada hesapta olmayan isler olcakatir. güzel bir genclik komedisi. pek mustehcenlik yok.
Mashes together a startling number of worn out plot devices with a second rate cast. I appreciate how they embraced this tired, unoriginal film making, and followed it through to create a tired, unoriginal film. Ultimately, you may be entertained, but you will not be enriched.
Initially I thought that this was going to be another teen music movie. It was, but not in a bad way. Great song references, and a clever and fun plot makes this movie worth watching. Its a shame its bland title does little to its credit. I loved 'Almost Famous', and while this is nowhere near on the same level, it is in the same vein.
This movie is probably a teen romantic drama version of the hilarious School of Rock. The movie towards the end is just melodramatic and extremely predictable. The movie got a higher rating basically for the soundtrack associated with the movie. Not much of acting can be expected with the actors. Considering the normal teen movies this is way better than them.
I really enjoyed this and I'm sure any music lover would probably as well because its got all the right ingrediants, plus a very likeable cast. Aly, Vanessa & Gaelan are perfect together as just a few members of a band formed at school. It does follow your typical 'high school kids into music' storyline, but isn't as predictable as you'd think. Gaelan Connell is very convincing as the music loving 'Will', and really reminds me of Shia LaBeouf. Overall a great film I'd definitley reccomend.
Despite the appearance of being some kind of School of Rock/High School Musical/Camp Rock hybrid/clone, Bandslam is, in fact, something unique and affecting...and an enigma of sorts. The two lead girls are two of the coolest/most idealistic high school girls ever (and Hudgens is severely miscast)...and yet there is a real genuineness throughout, and that is its most winning quality. A rare and excellent FAMILY (not "kid" not "teen") movie.t, with believa
It's certainly not perfect and the second half of the film becomes a touch too melodramatic and predictable. But as a whole, this teen drama is surprisingly good. The dialogue is actually witty and strewn with enough humor to make it rise above its familiar plot. We need more teen films like this. But sadly, it didn't get much attention and had a poor box office showing. So that means we're getting more of those dumb teen dramas.
A great surprise! This is not your regular dumb teen movie. It focuses more on Will and his struggle to fit in than on the Bandslam competition. So the title is a bad one (it *should* have been "Rock On, Will") and, as a result of bad marketing, this movie did not get a large audience, which is a shame. If you're afraid this is just another Disney teen movie, fear not: this is great.
