lukewarm western flick who's best aspect going for it is the end where it picks up on the idea of perpetuating a legend. the rest plays out in only a tolerable fashion, hardly even aspiring to be anything better, doubtfully even a faint memory long after viewing.

Fred Schiepisi looks at western myth. You can take that in the broadest sense possible as we watch Willie Nelson play a famous outlaw (Nelson's best acting job ever) and Gary Busey his acolyte (with Buddy Holly, Busey's best role). A very fine, much overlooked, movie.
