Summary: In 1941, New York intellectual playwright Barton Fink comes to Hollywood to write a Wallace Beery wrestling picture. Staying in the eerie Hotel Earle, Barton develops severe writer's block. His neighbor, jovial insurance salesman Charlie Meadows, tries to help, but Barton continues to struggle as a bizarre sequence of events distracts him even further from his task. (imdb)

You know when you meet some person.. and you admire their genius but then they have got some crazy quirks on them that you know you will never be able to like them or be at ease with them.. - that is how I felt about this film. I liked how is started and how it was going.. the common struggle of a writer who wants to write about common man. But then I feel the story got hijacked with the surreal presence of the Charlie character especially after the murder. Confused and dont know wtf happened.

Classic Cohen brothers with a fun period setting and eccentric characters in both Turturro and Goodman.

Turturro and Goodman.. I have no words for them.. Breathtaking.. Coens are always really good at 2 things: characters and atmosphere. Both show their presence quite well in this confusing movie. You won't understand anything when it ends but surprisingly you won't hate it. That's the Coen magic I guess..

Does a fair job skewering petit-bourgeois liberal artistic sentiments. I love that Fink maintains a paternal and artistic distance from his subjects, believing his work to be above commerce and himself the enlightened savior of "the people," only to find himself a proletarianized and miserable worker in the film industry. I like to call this "being punk-slapped by reality." Excellent film.

The Coens have a natural talent for worlds that are a little off-kilter - almost as if they take place in an ever-so-slightly more surreal parallel universe. Barton Fink is one of their best works; weird and funny and apocalyptic, while absolutely dripping with confidence. Simply brilliant.

Great film that jumps between genres at will. Love the acting and visuals, and the two detectives are among my favorite characters ever.

I love Goodman and Tuturro in this. I love the odd blend of humor and menace as well. It's just a rambling oddball journey one has to sit back and enjoy.
