Beautiful to look at (and not just Anna Friel) but hard to feel engaged in. The plot jumps around for no real reason, especially since at almost 2.5 hours it should have time to pace itself. Good - locations, lead actress, cinematography. Bad - wobbly plot, length, horribly out-of-pace comedy monks.

I have always been interested in the legend of Bathory and this movie approaches the history of the countess with a slightly different approach than expected. Beautiful scenery and costumes, but the story seems to jump around a bit. Still a good watch if you are interested in history. The monks with their strange inventions could have been left out, though.
