I've always thought the DC characters to be two dimensional and a bit stupid, not least of all Batman but this film manages to justify every single thing it introduces, from his access to high quality armour to the very reason he dons the suit to risk his life every night.

A great movie from top to bottom, showing Batman's strengths as a vigilante, and his weaknesses as a Bruce Wayne. From his growth physically to his development mentally we finally obtain more insight to whom Batman is and why he should exist. Soon after we see Bruce Wayne, and his cavalier veil which hides his desires to make Gotham city a better place. Then when you least expect it the personalities meld together to form the hero we all recognize as Batman.

Christopher Nolan has given the Batman films some much-needed new life with a whole new take on this comic book hero. Christian Bale is dark and convincing (he and Gary Oldman have flawless American accents), Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine have great supporting roles, and the action is good entertainment. It could have had a shorter runtime, but what the hell...it still makes up for Joel Schumacher's awful attempts.

The beginning is somewhat slow, but Christopher Nolan is one of the best new directors working today - the mood of the film is done wonderfully. Bale is good, as is most of the supporting cast - Katie Holmes is the only weak link.
