The best animated movie I've seen, and arguably better than most Batman movies. Its childish in its intended appeal, yet adult in its effect. You ordered mac & cheese off the kids menu and its surprisingly filling.

I thought the movie was far better than any Batman movie (not made by Christopher Nolan). I enjoyed the film more due to the fact that I never felt that the film was targeted at a younger audience. I also enjoyed this movies version of the joker ALOT. Possibly more than I did Heath Ledger's Joker, simply because this Joker had his own sense of humour and in the comics his madness came from his bad taste in humour and not only his lust for chaos.

Cartoon film noir set in the 1940s but filled with '90s sarcasm. Complicated storyline with a stylish dark look may be lost on the kiddies but adults will stay awake.

I would only rank it so high because of how good the Batman Animated Series was. Ultimately, this movie is just an extended episode. Nothing too special besides providing some interesting flashbacks to Bruce Wayne's life "pre-Batman."

The third best Batman movie. The Joker was great, the animation is solid but not amazing (though the atmosphere of Gotham is right on), the script is great. There were a few awkward moments in the voice acting but generally everyone was really good.

For a while there this held the prestigious title of Best Bat-Film. To be fair, Schumacher wasn't doing much to give it a run for its money, though Burton's second effort comes close. Of course in came Nolan to blow this away, but this is still a damn fine watch, with a great script and terrific voice acting. As good as the Nolan films are, Dini and Timm's Batman is still the definitive version to me. While their show is better than this movie (if slightly), the film is much darker. Fun stuff.

Seventy-some-minute cartoon. The square-jawed, trapezoid-torsoed hero is more credible, certainly, than Michael Keaton, and the graphic style throughout is convincingly comic-bookish. But the animation is not really all that animated, and the story is slowed by flashbacks and romance.

Excluding some threads of the plot which were unnecessary or needed to be tightened, this is one of the best Batman adaptations. From the moment the opening theme, with its choral vocals, plays I realised this was something interesting, living up to my memories of it and the original animated series from childhood, sombre and atmospheric, strong in its voice cast (Mark Hamill's Joker is up there as one of the best versions) and combining 40s aesthetic with animated bombast.

The animation has held up pretty well with age and the voice acting is spot-on, particuarly the excellent Joker. While I'm not quite in the "best Batman film ever made" camp (I'd probably still give Burton's two outings the edge over this) and I found the plot a tad too predictable, there is still plenty to enjoy in this dark, entertaining Batman thriller. Well worth hunting out.
