Summary: The Cylons began as humanity's robot servants. They rebelled and evolved and now they look like us. Their plan: destroy the race that enslaved them. This film tells the story of two Cylon leaders, working separately, and their determination to finish the task.
Very unnecessary companion movie which only serves to demystify (aka spoil) major plot points throughout the series in a disjointed fashion which feels like a clip show. Only worth watching for Stockwell's performance.
It lacks any real dramatic tension since you know how everything turns out already (it would be pointless and confusing to watch this without having already seen the entire series), but it's nice to have lots of little details filled in. More than anything, it was enjoyable to be able to see more of the characters I liked so much.
Not nearly necessary, felt more like a double episode that got cut, but stays clear of the kind of wtfery that the "real" series finale wanted us to swallow and provides some nice character insight and the sort of ruminations on religion and social interaction that the TV series did when it was at its best.
We basically knew all this stuff already. We didn't need to see the colonies get destroyed, or any of this garbage. It was better left to the imagination, ESPECIALLY with such horrendous computer effects.
Redundant, overgrown clip-show thats main purpose is to show smug looking Cylons and expose some fake tits. If you have any imagination, then you'll have figured pretty much all this stuff out already (except for some completely incongruous filler crap). Brief moments with Leoben provide a flicker of interest, but seriously, this is worthless. If you like BSG, avoid this.
those who expect revelations will be direly disappointed. it dwells a bit more on the things that weren't told directly throughout the series, and it doesn't add anything new. brother cavil steals much of the show, and number four gets the spotlight once in a while. The exclusion of the Threes, Baltar and the President is kind of a downer.
The first first 15 minutes created high hopes which aren't fulfilled. I still feel like the actual plan of the cylons hasn't been explored or explained enough. I can't discuss the actions of Cavil too much but I felt that they simplified the character far too much. Stockwell manages to save some of it with a great performance. It adds little to the series which is a shame because it could have offered an interesting perspective from the Cylons. Still, as a fan, I did somewhat enjoy it.
It's a shame that it was helmed by one of the series' most mediocre writers. I think that it undermines a lot concerning the first two seasons. A lot of mystery has now been replaced by "Galactica Cavil did it lol", and that really grinds my gears. The only aspect that was worthwhile were the parts involving the resistance on Caprica.
I was shocked to see how bad this turned out. Shocked.. The only good thing were the tits and ass we saw 2 3 times throughout the movie.. Yes, that bad..
feels like compilation of best Battlestar Galactica moments, only they are far from being the best moments. Lack of original cast members is clearly visible. Explores, mainly, two specific male models of the Cylons which were underdeveloped characters in the series. Watch it only if you are a fan.
A glorified clip show, with the new footage only barely showing decent motivation. The last scene slightly redeems it, but there was still no reason for this to exist.
If you enjoyed the Battlestar series, I can recommend this bonus story wholeheartedly to you. Directed by Edward James Olmas, this tells the story from the perspective of the Cylons. It is fast paced, very well directed and has enough link-ins with the series to orientate you to where in the time line it is. It adds some worthwhile new insights into the motives and thinking of the cylons and is enjoyable in its own right. I really enjoyed it. I trust you will too.
"The Plan" gets a bit of a rough time from its critics. Yes it's fair to say that compared to the miniseries, the 4 seasons & "Razor" it's not quite up to standard, but it's certainly not bad. The performances are as usual very good, with Stockwell as charismatic & watchable as always. The effects are solid, with some very good and some not so good moments. Ultimately what lets this down is its reuse of old material, lack of innovation and new ideas. BSG's weak link, but it's still good sci-fi.
Don't get me wrong: BSG Plan was well done film thanks to Olmos. But it was done for fans only; it does not explain anything. You have to know the series to follow what the hell is going on. This movie is kind of like Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me was: to show something you could not in TV. Except BSG Plan fails to tell anything new we did not know or guess before. This story fills the caps series did not tell. Nothing new, nothing else.
