Rowan Atkinson is the outrageous Mr. Bean, sent on a mission to California to escort the world famous painting of 'Whistler's Mother' to its new home in The Grierson Gallery. What the gallery owner, one of the richest men in America, and his curator David Langley (MacNicol) believe, is that Mr. Bean is Dr. Bean, a renowned art expert. In fact he is just a sleepy-headed, wildly eccentric museum guard. (Universal Studios)

Coppola. Von Trier. Me. We have all unknowingly embarked upon amazing trilogies, right after the completion of our first great work of art. Why, it was mere hours ago that I wrote a review for 'The United States of Leland' only to stumble upon this thing, much further down the road of my drunken stupor. So, true to, say, early George Lucas, this second, more expansive and darker review goes like this: Lo and behold, it's the 'Let's all make fun of autism' movie.

A masterclass in comedic acting; it says something when almost the entire movie is made up of those laugh-out-loud scenes you'd recall to your friends later-and every one was thanks to Atkinson's bumbling (yet oddly brilliant) Bean. He rarely even needs a straight guy to play off of (though the world of serious art criticism here provides many good ones). Bean's outrageous slapstick and hilarious yet heartwarming naivety (see his final speech; newly learned hand gesture) had me in stitches.

Enjoyable if overlong and needlessly complicated translation of Bean to the big screen. Atkinson's wonderful comic performance is balanced by MacNicol's straight-man work. Odd but enjoyable cameos by Mills and Reynolds; film makes a major misstep by trying to make Bean lovable, and by doing this dulls the dark edge that marked the original series; Bean is really a bastard and should be portrayed as such. Still has some hysterically funny scenes that work even better when taken in isolation.

Mr. Bean the series isn't even in the same league as Atkinson's other series Blackadder. Yet it did tend to garner some laughs here and there. The movie even lacks that.

As a real fan of the TV show I was pretty disappointed with the movie. While some gags are funny it just feels like a dragged out episode of Mr. Bean with greater stakes to appeal to a more mainstream audience.

Rowan Atkinson is a very funny man, and Bean is a very funny movie. It just happens to cause feelings of unease and discomfort in me like someone whom I don't know at all is rubbing my thighs, but in a funny way. Pretty good!

Well, it has a few humorous scenes and moments, but it's awfully unimaginative in terms of plot, directing, editing and so on. And most importantly, Bean always worked best in small doses (i.e. the TV show). This has too much of him in one sitting.

The show was genius. This is not. It is totally unoriginal, lifting several gags from the show you have already seen. It gives Bean more talking parts and in the process completely changes the Bean character as well as the tone of the comedy. It isn't a bad movie, just a very disappointing mediocre one that was clearly repackaged for a different audience.

A borderline tolerable attempt to update the formula for a beloved British comedy character. Unfortunately by this point even the original television episodes were largely dated stuff, and the formula does not go over well on the big screen. If you have any taste in comedy you'll be left despairing at the all wasted talent.

There are some fun gags here, though there are also others that are recycled from the TV show. However the main problem is that Mr. Bean works best in a few short bursts of silliness, however that same philosophy comes across as quite stilted in a full-length movie. However, there are still those scenes here and there that really shine and show off Rowan Atkinson's comedic chops.

Lacks the laughs the show has; in fact, my memeory tells me that this movie has no slapstick humour in it at all. Or maybe any humour in general. But it does go over-the-top with it's massive heart. This was also the first film to ever gross me out.

"Bean" is a masterclass in awkwardly slapstick filmmaking. The titular character bumps from one hilariously embarrassing situation to another in a film that has its fair share of memorable, iconic even, moments. Atkinson is reliable in bringing Bean to the big screen for the first time and is aided by the enjoyable Peter MacNicol. But above all, the makers seem committed to delivering painful, no-holds-barred, surrealistic daftness, and they succeed.

I never liked Rowan's style as Mr. Bean, but Mel Smith managed to find some okay humour out of him time to time. Maybe there's also a small thing that I'm familiar with museum assistant occupation. But still I do not fancy Bean himself, even in here.

Somehow the sequel "Mr. Bean's Holiday" manages to be thousands of times better than this poor excuse for a Mr. Bean film. It's awful. It's not funny. It's insulting to the source material. The only quality parts about it is Rowan Atkinson manages to still pull off Mr. Bean, despite having to work with such a lousy film around him. The musical score is fantastic though.

Not nearly as good as the original series. I'm guessing this is because of Hollywood's requirement that it have some sort of three act structure, as well as giving Mr. Bean himself way more dialogue than he ought to have. Nonetheless, it's entertaining enough if you're a fan of the character, though he does rehash far too many of his old gags.

Fails horribly to live up to the excellent TV series. All of the funny parts of the movie are taken directly from the TV show without even altering the bits, and none of the new material provides anything worth watching as every character other than Mr. Bean is horribly written and acted, and even Mr. Bean himself is not the same Mr. Bean everyone grew to love on the BBC
