Excellent Dialog Centric piece.

Enjoyable ensemble piece about growing up and accepting what you have. The dynamic between Portman and Hutton was brave and interesting and deserved fleshing out more.

A stellar young ensemble cast highlights this simple coming-home/life lessons and relationships drama that feels heartfelt and has a few inspired moments. It's nothing too memorable, and it doesn't say a whole lot about growing up that nobody knows, but it's a pleasant forgettable time passer that earns the bare-minimum recommendation.

Im just going to throw out a 70 bc i dont remember this film at all, though the kumpel i saw it with ranked it really high, and i dont remember giving him grief for it, so i must have liked it quite a bit.

Beautiful Girls is a touching, bittersweet examination of love, friendship and self through the filter of a man's (Tim Hutton) return to his tiny snow-covered hometown for a high school reunion.

All along, I was thinking...'who the frig is the main lead? He's doing a great job.' And then I find out it's Tim Hutton who I adored in "Ordinary People" and it made complete sense. I'm a sucker for unusual character studies with small-town locales (think "You Can Count on Me") so this was right in my wheelhouse. The characters were all great and clearly defined so their interactions felt real, authentic and never contrived although Portman's proto-ManicPixieDreamgirl was pushing it.

Not really funny, not really compelling, not really much of anything and I don't know what the point of this film was. It's not tedious to sit through but it wasn't exactly riveting or interesting in any particular way. Every scene with Rosie O'Donnell could've been cut and the film would've been a lot better. Not a bad time passer but it was lacking the oomph that a lot of great films have.

If you're the man responsible for writing "Con Air" and your director is dead then thank your lucky stars you got to make this movie when you did because everything from casting to location, even the way it looks feels very right place at the right time.
