Summary: A French grad student named Celine (Julie Delpy) meets an American boy named Jesse (Ethan Hawke) on the Budapest-Vienna train. They get off the train in Vienna and hang out for a while.
There is something remarkably honest about this films depiction of a hurried romance. Hawke's Jesse has the bravado and awkwardness that characterize young men, while Delpy's Celine is enchanting with her caution, independence, and conviction. Their romance is fascinating as it progresses from stolen glances, to abstract intellectual conversations about their meeting, and finally arrives at a desperate passion. I was enthralled by, and in love with, this complex couple.
I have been meaning to see this movie for a while, I guess the wait was worth it. One of the few romantic dramas that I have ever liked. The story is very simple and but a very good movie. The movie is really well placed and keeps you interested all the time even when most of the movie consists of dialogues. A romantic movie that one and all should see. At the end you do fall in love with this movie.
Linklater has about as much visual sense as a lizard, and this film is probably single-handedly responsible for so much of the over-quirky characterization in cutesy faux-indie movies. On the other hand, Julie Delpy is a goddess, and points for the L'Eclisse homage at the end at least.
when I watched it for the first time I fell in love with it straight away, but when I tried to watch it again it bored me a bit because there is just too much talk - but all in all a good movie.
