Summary: Three movies are being shot simultaneously and Charlie is an overworked scene shifter. The foreman is waited on hand and foot until all the shifters but Charlie go on strike. A girl looking for work pretends to be a man and helps Charlie. Charlie discovers her gender and falls in love with her. The foreman thinks they are homosexual and in the ensuing fight they become involved in a long pie throwing scene from one of the movies in production. The frustrated workers dynamite the studio. The usual from Chaplin. Not really all that funny, but a product of a far less cynical times than ours (nearly a century now!) and , as such, a little pleasant by virtue of being cheery

a fairly dull short that has few shining moments. most of the humor is pretty childish and uninteresting.

Lots of fun gags here (esp. enjoyed the pillar and the chairs), but the story is so filled with activity and new events that it becomes weighed down with narrative. Charlie has some nice moments with his Goliath, Eric Campbell, particularly the pie throwing.

The balancing with a pilar was long and funny joke and a good example of excellent timing. The hatchet joke then again was pretty pooring. There was one gay joke and a ongoing cake on a face joke.
