I saw this on PBS years ago over the holidays and found it to be warm and funny - a perfect diversion. Was also fun to see Lenny Henry and Rowan Atkinson out of their typical roles. Definitely something I'd watch again if I caught it channel-surfing.

There are some laughs here, but it's as though Curtis can only write one character well in any given project: in this case, it's Josephus the Genie, who gets all of the good lines while pretty much everyone else struggles to make an impact. This disparity, coupled with such a charmless plot, makes for a confusing and ultimately bland watching experience.
