An interesting piece of meta-fiction overall, but it never does anything particularly interesting. This is the sort of film that is exemplary of stuffy arthouse flicks.

After a really difficult trawl through some of Fassbinder%u2019s earliest work, this was a breath of fresh air and gives me hope for going further into his filmography. Effectively a self critique of his profession, it is much more engaging of a drama matched by very good use of limited locations (and his occasional use of very long takes was spot-on choice). I hope for the best as I go on with his films again.

The very definition of pretentiousness, but its' sheer, gargantuan narcissism is also what makes it strangely watchable.

Good but a little bit too hung up on its deconstructionist concept, and at the same time a bit lacking in focus. Fassbinder got better than this but it's still very much worth watching.
