Beyond is set inside the Matrix somewhere in modern day Japan, and starts with a girl named Yoko looking for her cat Yuki. For some reason or another, the cat was drawn to a haunted house that the local kids try to keep a secret. One of the kids reluctantly leads Yoko to the house, much to the annoyance of his friends. It soon becomes obvious why the house is kept a secret. (everything2.com)

Not bad, not bad. It's a perfect example of why the Matrix sequels should've spent more time dealing with the Matrix itself, and less time dealing with dumbass, uninteresting Zion.

Outside of some very awkward voice acting, I thought this was pretty spectacular. It actually managed to deliver a massive Cartesian wallop - drawing out the feeling of what it would be like to find oneself in unreality. And it does so - in no time at all - with some kind of heart, flirting with our desires for the magical (I felt disappointed when the house was removed!). I certainly agree with those saying that this is the interesting angle to take on the Matrix.

One of the better Animatrix shorts, but that's not saying too much.

beautiful. sublime. where all the other animatrix were hitting the concept with a blunt instrument,... morimoto goes for the subtle exploration of the theme. beautiful.

Fantastic short that expands on the universe and has impressive animation. Also includes one of my favorite aspects to the Matrix universe, a defective area.

Did the Animatrix really need to be broken up into all ten(?) segments?

The animation style of this one is a bit too 'childish' for me, but the story is fun. This is one of the better shorts on the Animatrix dvd.

Decent part of the animatrix with a nice idea about anomalies in the matrix.

Interesting little idea about glitches in the matrix. Animation is ok.

Dull, rambling anime nonsense with only the most tenuous connection to The Matrix. I can't for the life of me imagine why someone given free reign to make a short film about glitches in the Matrix would choose to make it about a girl chasing her lost cat. Even at thirteen minutes it's a chore to sit through.

My favorite Animatrix Short, and probably the most heavy in terms of symbolism although it manages to stay extremely subtle about it.
