It's terrible what happened, but this is just a drive by movie. The characters are not convincing, and despite the 'plot' I couldn't keep my attention. Only the last 5 minutes are a bit powerful, and I found the end-credits the most touching. If you want to see more; Hotel Rwanda does a better job.

Is it wrong that I find the perspective infuriating? If you're going to make a film about a serious event like the Rwandan genocide, why not make it from the perspective of a Rwandan, hell even about the UN tying their own hands, instead of a charming white guy who thinks what's going on is bad but who is ultimately irrelevant? I wanted to know more about everyone on screen except the two main characters, who I didn't care about in the least.

This movie makes a stand !!! It shows just how cruel can humans be towards each other but also focuses on UN's pitiful attemps to help the countries of the Third World.

Depicts extreme evil without trying to explain why it happened. Western double standards and the dangers of an inhumanely bureaucratized system are exposed, while the genocide itself remains mysterious. Evil appears as an uncontrollable force which seems to have possessed the militants, assisted by drugs and propaganda. Benefits from a feeling of authenticity, which is strengthened by the end credits - by far the most moving part of the film. The two main characters aren't that interesting.

An extraordinary account, along with one of the most potently crafted films of recent cinema. The harrowing account of people holed up in the local school has an impact even more profound than similar films such as Hotel Rwanda, mainly thanks to some fantastic acting by John Hurt, being filmed in the actual real life location of the genocide and with a production crew comprised of survivors of the same events covered in the production. It conveys a sense of loss and hopelessness few manage.

A great film on a terrible subject, one that makes me ashamed of my country (UK) and disgusted by the United Nations.

Mixed feelings about this movie. It's terrible what has happened, it really shows the feeling of abandon by the UN, and of being trapped and being scared. Hurt didn't completely convince me with his role as I got the feeling he was overacting, which made it awkward. I know this movie wasn't about him, but it certainly distracted me
