Doesn't hold up, for me. There's that nice punchline about work that does provide a good skewering of the heist genre, but nothing else here is vital enough to carry the film, through either tension or comedy. I'm totally willing to believe this actually is a classic of some sort, and I'm sure there's a sound argument for that claim, but it didn't make it across in my viewing. Perhaps it loses something in the translation.

An immensely adorable movie by a criminally underrated Italian master. I love comedy without jokes, comedy that simply sees the humor in real-life situations. The best examples of Italian neo-realism have that quality (Visconti and Fellini's films of that era), but Monicelli pushes this peculiarity to its very funniest. The tragic dimension is here as well, making this a warm, heartfelt, touching film.

"I Soliti ignoti" is an influential caper flick spoof about a gang of inept burglars attempting to rob a safe, with mostly comical results. It's like a cross between "The Full Monty" and "Ocean's Eleven", although made almost half a century before these movies, and about as silly and enjoyable. It's nothing really spectacular, just a harmless collection of punch lines, gags and amusing performances that never fails to engage, despite never being able to fascinate.

As a lover of caper flicks, this film was really quite fun and very smart to boot. It makes great play out of several genre conventions and has a humanist, very neo-realist side that makes it sweet but not saccharine.

Half of the humor in this movie is pretty weak, but things improve around the halfway point. It's a decent spot of fun, just nothing that special about it.

It's a film that's better in concept than execution, but it's still pretty enjoyable. Few of the gags are really great and the pacing is a tad slow but it strikes the tone it's looking for well enough to make up for it.

Comedy and crime, 2 things I love to watch. Great overlooked Italian film with 2 of my favorite actors - Mastroianni and Gassman. Gets progressively funny throughout and moves really quick. Recommended. I also would like to see Hollywood remake this some day.
