Summary: Primo and Secondo are two brothers who have emigrated from Italy to open an Italian restaurant in America. Primo is the irascible and gifted chef, brilliant in his culinary genius, but determined not to squander his talent on making the routine dishes that customers expect. Secondo is the smooth front-man, trying to keep the restaurant financially afloat, despite few patrons other than a poor artist who pays with his paintings... (imdb)

An Italian-American version of Babette's Feast but almost just as great. Funny to see Tucci show his Italian side as Segundo especially when combined with his fictional brother Primo. But what I really love about this movie is the general feel and how it captures the love for food, family, friends and music.

Although snugly at home in the burgeoning genre of the food film (_Babette's Feast_, _Like Water for Chocolate_, etc.), this is much more food for thought than food for tummy, an "issues" movie about the artist versus the businessman in the American marketplace. Only the culinary details are dated; the aesthetic issues remain as timely as ever. The moviemakers do not have the chutzpah, or the Italian equivalent, to pass themselves off as foursquare on the side of art and the artist.

I love this film. The relationship between Tucci and Shalhoub is superbly played, often without words. The support is all good, with Holm particularly memorable. The soundtrack is perfect, and some of the best food scenes ever filmed are here, often beautifully choreographed in long, wide shots. Wonderful.

One of best movies about food. Thumbs up for S.Tucci in all parts he has in this movie. Loved the ending shot and Italian dialogues. Characters were really good, being not so black-white as one would expect for this kind of movie. Overall brilliant and highly recommended.

The movie is every bit as delicious as the food shown. If you like the movie, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of the cookbook Cucina & Famiglia, created by Stanley Tucci's nonna and the chef who helped Stanley Tucci get ready for the film.

A foodie lovers' dream. Makes me wanna go out and eat a whole mess of pasta. And the timbale -- oh, the timbale! Tucci and Shalhoub are at the top of their very considerable game, as well, but even these heavy hitters play second billing to the whimsically and lovingly filmed, prepared and devoured dishes.

This is not a film for fast-food junkies, but for those who like to spend an evening at a restaurant, enjoying the ambience, not caring that their meal takes a good deal of time to prepare. Luckily, a good portion of the dialogue is subtitled Italian, as it was difficult to hear all of the dialogue over the sound of my stomach growling. [ Full Review]

A lovely character study that is both dramatic and hilarious. It examines in these people without pretense or heavy-handedness: what's important, what they want, and how much they really know about one another. The brothers' arguments and Primo's bumbling attempts to reach out are priceless. The whole cast is outstanding, the music and production design are great, and the food gets me cooking Italian every time I put this on. A perfect film with a perfect ending.
