Stunning photography, but really really cliched and often ridiculous.

A rejig of the Helen Keller bio set in India with a male Keller. Sometimes overdone, sometimes wonderful. The teacher figure has a unique and eccentric style - perfectly covers the old saw, 'there method in his madness'- which sometimes intrudes on the drama being shown - his yelling at a deaf pupil makes no sense and is jarring, along with her sometimes too-acute-for-a-blind-person meandering. In patches overacted and over-emoted but at other times this one really works. Nil Bollywood touches.

Despite some weak points in the plot and the overacting of the teacher's character, this is a very touching movie and has the potential to bring katharsis.

Despite some unconvincing narrative missteps (especially the incident that breaks up the central relationship), a powerful and moving Bollywood spin on THE MIRACLE WORKER, anchored by Bachchan, and Mukerji & Kapoor, both brilliant as his troublesome pupil. The underlying story arc is familiar from countless other tales, but the contrasting narrative of Bachchan's decline adds dramatic weight and resonance, and the gorgeous cinematography and staging makes this an absolute pleasure to bask in.
